So, I have a rough idea for a Holiday story...

And I don't want it to look like I stuck in the holiday theme at the last minute. Any tips?

Also, this will be my first submission to Lit in... a looooong time, so anyone want to volunteer to help edit? Need someone who won't bite though

Well that greatly depends on what your rough idea is. if you want a Holiday theme but you're not making it directly about the holidays, then I would suggest just adding extra tidbits of info that let'sd the reader know what time of year it is. you know, build a winter holiday ambience with some descriptions that don't necessarily have to do with the story itself.

For example, you could have someone looking out the window and watching the snow fall, or making a comment about being overwhelmed with Christmas songs everywhere they go.

That makes sense, and I don't think that it sounds like it would be tacky or added in at the last minute. Especially if the Holiday theme is as integral to the plot as you say.
