and walk into the middle of a family meeting... These are only called when there is bad news - so immediately a feeling of dread overcomes me...

It seems that one of my cousins has recently been told that she is HIV+, her boyfriend gave it to her... knowing already - before they started to date (or have sex!!!!) that he was positive.

When she originally found out, she broke up with him - but they are back together now, and her reasoning... get this... GRRR!!! If she wants to have sex, she might as well be having it with him, cause then she doesn't have to worry about infecting anyone else!

First off... I'd love to slap her around for going back to the bastard...

Secondly... can I go beat the piss outta him for KNOWINGLY infecting her!?! What kind of low life scum does this sorta thing?

Of course... we are all very supportive of her, and are standing behind her... but I don't know how I'm going to react the next time I see him... to be truthful, I don't ever want to see him again - he did this to her... he fuckingwell knowingly did this to her...

Baby

I agree with Purrde Flower, that should be against the law, and if it isn't, maybe someone in our government should make it a law that if you know, and don't tell someone, you are quilty of Murder....... I think she needs some help though.

I'm sad to hear about your cousin...but could you please clarify this statement. Did he know but not tell her, or did he know and tell her, so she knew ahead of time as well?

I watched a show about this one time. I am pretty sure someone can press charges even if your cousin doesn't do it herself. I know if the authorities find out about it in any way shape or form they must press charges.

HIV people knowingly infect others so they will have a partner they know will stay with them through the end. *note not all HIV people do this just some.

It is a great sadness that he did this to her, knowing he was positive. And she doing knowingly with a positive person. Her logic does have some merit, if are together, then maybe it stops with them. I know that doesn't help you but it might help someone else.

It is illegal. Didn't that one guy get caught and prosecuted for sleeping with a bunch of people, having AIDS and knowingly passing it on to them? I don't know what happened to him, but, uggh.

It's like pre-meditated murder, except they're not dead yet. But they will be, barring a medical miracle.

On a related note, anyone else doing AIDS Walk this weekend? (I'm in the AIDS Walk Wisconsin - Madison route) I'll keep your cousin in mind.

Your cousin's an idiot.

He should be castrated.

Her cousin is a she. The boyfriend was the one that was HIV+ and gave it to the cousin.

Oh wait HIV/AIDS does not exist and is just a gov't conspiracy so nevermind.

I understood that her cousin is a "she". She is still an idiot.

I also understand that "he" was the one that gave her HIV. He should still be castrated.

The rest of your comment is specious bullshit that one would expect from the immature.

There was an HIV+ guy at Ft Benning (in my wife's unit) that was ordered to inform any woman he planned on having sexual relations with about his being HIV+. Well, come to find out, this guy disobeyed this order, and knowingly infected 12 women with HIV. His excuse being "If I'm gonna die, I'm gonna have fun while I'm alive." He was sentenced to life imprisonment at Ft Levenworth...and the judge said that he hoped that wasn't too long of a time.

Although, that is no sort of justice for the poor women he infected.

Again, I feel bad for your cousin. In some states, she can press criminal charges...in some states it's attempted murder, in some it's a form of voluntary manslaughter.

your cousin is 'acting like' an idiot, but I don't know as I would go so far as to say she is one. She is likely going through some of Kubler-Ross's stages of death and when she really hits 'anger', she may well walk.

The guy should definitely be put away. Ass. Lock him up and throw away the key.

You can press charges on people for doing that right?

I'm not sure of the US laws, but here, you can press charges against someone for knowingly passing any type of STD. Not just HIV.

I'm not sure how I would react to my cousin either. My heart goes out to your family.

I knew I could rely on people here....

I want to thank (most of) you guys for being so supportive - this is the reason I love these boards...

Thanks to all of you for your kind, supportive words... and I still wanna beat the shit outta this fucker for doing this to her, but I guess I'll just have to work through it. She's going to a specialized HIV clinic in Vancouver next week to start intensive drug therapy... I'm glad she's taking positive steps now - hopefully the next step will be leaving this bastard.

So, again, I thank all you kind souls out there, and yes, flawed_ethics... our 'local' AIDS walk was 2 weeks ago, and before I knew about my cousins status, I participated in it - now I'm twice as committed to doing what I can to raise $$ to find a cure...

Well, there is some hope actually.

Recently, discoveries were made of a protein that blocks HIV from further infecting cells, efectively preventing it from reproducing. It wasn't heralded as a cure...at least not yet, but at least it's some more hope.

If I find a link to more information, I will post it for you.

God that sucks. I wish I could beat the piss out of that guy. What a fucker. Pieces of bastardly scum like that should have the crap kicked out of them on a daily basis.

I just hope that there will be allowance on research that could cure cancer and HIV and such.

Kinda know where you are coming from

Several years my best friend contracted HIV from his fiancee.. she had an affair ..and well , guess what pre-wedding gift he got from her

Your cousin is going to go through a very messed time for awhile, that is without a doubt. And a lot of her choices arent going to make sense for a while. She's going to need to talk to someone, get some couselling.

As sympathetic as you are, you wont be able to console her...after all you arent the one with the virus. Be supportive, be there to talk to her, but please god in heaven dont treat like a pariah, a victim or a princess.

my best friend is still fine and completely functional today, shit, he's in better shape than me. The disease is not a death sentence, it can kill you and most likely will, but theres still a lot of life to live.

And yes, charges can be pressed... hes a health risk...he can be charged with reckless disregard for huiman safety, and attempted homicide
