So, are we happy that a freshman won this year's Heisman?

More importantly, how come he gets a cool nickname like "Johnny Football"?

Should Johnny Unitas be pissed?

Should Elway?

Discuss.

hopefully he'll rank up there with other great heisman winning qbs like matt lienart, eric crouch, andre ware and danny wuerfel.

Yeah, Im cool with it. I dont think he has a future in the NFL, but he lit up the college game this year.

I would not be too concerned if I was Elway. The success rate in the NFL of Heisman winners is not always the best.

Rashaan Salaam was my favourite non-QB winner. I think he's a preacher now.

He's a freshman, so does this speak to the lack of draftable QBs we'll be seeing over the next three years?

Damn, wikipedia has already been updated to reflect Manziel's win tonight.

That was quick.

No, he just doesnt have the size to play in the NFL. I think there are lots of viable QB's coming up, but Johnny Football just aint one of em.

I mean that if they had to reach down all the way to a freshman QB, there must be a lot of sub-par upper-classmen QBs out there who will be opting for the NFL soon.

Perhaps we are a bit jaded by the past couple of years. Cameron, GriffithIII, Luck-these guys are anomolies when it comes to rookie success. Most pro prospects at QB take a few years to win or achieve consistent success.

Eyer's thread and poll about all this is still up and running in here.

Your absence has been noted.
