I'm sorry but I haven't seen any recent posts at all from the two people listed as mods for BDSM Talk. Is that really normal?

BLoved is now taking it upon himself to advise every newbie who tentatively posts here. He has spammed the forum all to hell and now he's popping up on every thread where people are just finding there way around here.

Example

Do you guys want this, as a forum community? To have this idiot spout his crap at people genuinely new to BDSM and to have every new poster here greeted with a 'beware of the troll' post because his 'advice' is so evangelically 1-twoo-way? Do we want newcomers here to see us constantly arguing with, bitching about and exasperatedly trying to smack an ounce of common sense and tolerance into this dangerously deluded cockwit? Is that what we want this place to be?

I haven't even been participating on this forum that long and already BLoved has spammed all the fun out of it with his condescending little essays and ~smiles~ When I put him on ignore, half the damn forum vanishes and I can't follow the flow of things.

Am I missing something or do the people who moderate this place not give a flying crap whether intelligent, tolerant, open discussion can still thrive here?

Just askin'

Agreed. Etoile's doing a good job in their stead, but the other two are just never here.

Oops, I just spotted the thread about Etoile's addition.

She's already a mod on GLBT though, so it's very good of her to volunteer.

Maybe this can be a kudos for Etoile thread instead.

:nana:

The forum has mods, but the forum is what the community makes it.

Start discussions, bump old threads, offer your own advice. There are so many conversations about BDSM to be had that have nothing to do with the drama-of-the-week. Anyone can state their opinion Free Speech Zone and all - but if the community has concerns regarding a certain viewpoint, the best way to combat it is to offer a rock solid counter argument, and step up their own game.

ETA: I mean seriously... how many threads are there complaining about the guy vs. threads of genuine, on topic, informative, thoughtful discussion re: BDSM right now? People are wasting energy complaining about that, instead of creating good content for the BDSM forum. Do you want it to be a strong, healthy, creative forum? Yes? Then do something about it instead of whining.

As a newbie, all I can say is that it seems that the *regular, sane people* are making the real asses of themselves, not Bloved...

I've been lurking long enough to know that thought is backwards thinking, but even for this lurker, some of the regulars on here are crossing the line without even noticing it themselves...that's a very bad thing!

Any lines I cross, I cross deliberately and for the hell of it. Making an ass of myself on the internet? Piffle. I do it in real life, too. But I own my assiness.

A lot of people have transposed their old bodice-ripper romance fantasies, seems to me. The blushing maiden=sub, the dashing rogue = Dom.

I never expected leather to be a hallmark moment.

Half the threads on informative discussion are old ones that were bumped in retaliation to BLoved. Way to carry on as normal.

Rock solid counter argument bounces off this guy. It's utterly futile.

I wasn't whining so much as asking what the point is of the assigned moderators on this forum when they're apparently not part of the community and uninterested in curbing the repetitive verbal diarrhoea of disruptive trolls. I made the OP before I saw the one about Etoile.

It may not be true here, but on many other forums I belong to, commenting and moderating aren't the same. Many mods fall out of the posting habit, and fall in to the 'I'll sit and watch' habit instead. Sometimes good, sometimes bad.

AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! HAHAHAAA!!! *Gasp*

HaaaahAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAaaaaa!

Oh God, oh God, please, stop. You're fuckin' KILLING ME!

That...was the funniest thing I have ever seen in months on this site. Thank you for that hilarious bit of sarcasm and reverse psychology. That was brilliant.

Much (if not all) of what CM said above: QFT.

As for the mods not seeming to be around much... Cat, for those who don't know, has been very ill - on and off, but more on - for some time, and hasn't been able to devote as much time and energy to this oh-so-important board as she previously did and undoubtedly wishes she still could, instead of devoting them to the health issues bugging her.

KC works an extremely strenuous and demanding schedule, along with caretaking for her elderly - and recently severely injured by a fall - mother, as well as her children. She too would love to be able to devote more time and energy to the board; however, she has priorities, and I believe she is assigning them *very* correctly.

The difficulties facing both of them are, I believe, what made the appointment of Etoile as a third moderator for the board advisable, and met - at least by me - with huzzahs and gratitude. Caveat: She too has a real life, thus cannot be here 24/7 nor probably even enough to read every post in every thread, particularly since she also moderates another Lit forum.

My personal opinion? The mods do a thankless and difficult job, and THEY'RE NOT EVEN PAID TO DO IT! Given the demands of real life, add in the demands of moderating the blandest and most courteous of fora, THEN add in the demands of moderating *this* forum filled with kinky folks of various, sundry and wildly different personalities, and I am grateful for each and every iota of time and effort they give.

If you don't like a particular poster's POV... hit the freakin' IGNORE button on them, or hit the freakin' IGNORE button in your head and just skip over their (what you consider) crap. Don't whine that the moderators on a FREE SPEECH board aren't doing their jobs when they won't walk someone up the steps to the gallows.

That's my $0.02 (US) worth; YMMV.

I'm not sure even if all of the moderators were here 24/7 that the forums would look any different. They moderate based on directives provided by the owners of Lit who believe in free speech. Have you been to the GB lately? (yes I know it's unmoderated, but that almost everything goes is telling to me)

my only comment is that I wish people would quit quoting him since it defeats the purpose of those of us that have him on ignore. Other than that I think newbies are quite capable of deciding for themselves with some intelligence.

If you want an absoluterly complete ignore, use the plugin in the signature :)

As I have said more than once, I can overlook him. What I can't overlook is every SOB on this forum who wants to make a thread in reference to him. This place has really gotten to the point where it gives me a headache.

/crabby bitch

You're not wrong - some forums operate that way, and Lit can too. The reason I was added as a moderator is because it was clear that Catalina and KC were not only not posting, but not moderating. I personally know of several issues that went unaddressed, and Laurel ended up taking care of them. That's not her job, that's a mod's job. So a new mod was called for. I suggested a few people to her, and a few other people suggested me to her...you see the result!

Please tell us you're not using IE, either... Chrome, or Opera, Safari... ANYthing but IE!

Sillyness. When it comes down to it, the majority of websites are compatible with IE. IE 8 is okay. I've used all of them (yes, even Opera and Safari, spit spit) and there's a point where a browser is... just... a... browser.

It's like the arguments over Unix/Linux/Windows/Mac. I mean, who uses the OS any more? It's just a platform to connect to the interwebz or run an application/game, etc.

Now if only I could find the interwebz! I left it somewhere around here...

Well, you've already banked the trust. You're gold. :) Much easier to go with you.

Really, I don't think this place needs a stack of moderation anyways. Just the turkey trolls and some arguing getting out of hand, and the occasional misguided newbie putting a thread in the wrong spot.

Mind you, I'm on GMT+10, so a lot more shit could go down, and be cleared, while I sleep.

:D

AGAIN!!! Can we stop talking about him, already?
Maybe I'm just oblivious to some things, but I don't even notice him, unless someone points him out. I didn't even notice the number of threads he had started until someone said something.

This whole site is based on freedom of speech. While I understand it, I don't like that kind of police, because it can sure stir up the regulars when someone comes along and uses that to their advantage. Mods can't do a lot in some situations. It's not like a weed doesn't continues to grow, even if it's regularly chopped down.

I think of mods as insecticide. They don't need to even be here, unless there is a very good reason. Just like black mold. It's pretty nasty stuff if left to grow and fester. But a quick squirt from some good Clorox based spray before it's allowed to take hold and it's stopped in its tracks.

Now, a word to the wise. Don't you think that a certain someone could be reading everything and loving that he's getting under your skin? It reminds me of how our national news stations would broadcast what our side was doing in the Iraq war, as if the other side didn't have access to a TV.

Thankfully, the good guys got smart and stopped explaining what they were doing to the press. Damned if the press didn't enjoy a good story and couldn't wait to blab it. Of course, the people have a right to know!

My plan on how to handle him? It's simple Stay out of his threads. He hungers for an audience. Don't feed him. Everything takes care of itself, in time.
