So, American righties and cameras.

Now that they've caught a Muslim murderer, are you in favour?

Well, the rwcj have been telling us for years that the preponderance of cctv cameras were a direct attack on America. Probably commies. Now they've just caught the biggest Muslim terrorists since 911. Was just wondering if there was a shift in attitude.

I've always been in favor of European Style security cameras. Literally forever. My vanity wins out over my desire for privacy. When I was a small child I would sit and wave at the Wal-Mart security cameras. All, "That's right, Wal-Mart staff, you know you appreciate this. You gotta look at these ugly mulletted motherfuckers all day. Now you're all, "Oh cute kid!" I've made your goddamn day!"

The fact that they might catch shoplifters is just a bonus.

I have to side with the RWCJ here. I'd gladly set these two free and not bat an eye if I could trade it for say the closing of Gitmo or the end of the Patriot Act. Not exactly the same thing I grant you but still.

Ah, but on this side of the pond we don't have gitmo or the patriot Act yet the rwcj keeps telling us our surveillance cams are a sign of our imminent demise to the red hordes.

I won't be happy until each and every person (including international travelers) has an RFID nano-chip and a GPS nano-chip injected in order to facilitate tracking their movements and storage thereof in a government database.

It is patently ridiculous that we allow anyone to move about without leaving some sort of legal traces which might later be useful to law enforcement.

Why shouldn't satellites issue speeding tickets if your GPS nano-chip travels on a U.S. highway at illegal speeds? Why shouldn't the government be allowed to use RFID nano-chip tracing in order to determine who might have witnessed a crime?

If you don't do anything wrong, how can you possibly mind a little monitoring that you won't even know is happening?

Yep. If you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to fear.

It's funny how the left in Europe are the civil liberties crowd and the right in the US are just bought and paid for.

Pretty sure Kbate is being sarcastic, though she makes several interesting points despite it.

I'm not really against cameras (except red light cameras, I hate those) but I can see where their logic comes from.

There is no 'left and right' as far as civil liberties; people from each side are for some liberties and against other liberties. People on both sides are bought and paid for as well.

We're getting more cameras regardless of how people feel about privacy and being monitored. We're also going to have more government monitoring of bank accounts, money movement and cash transactions (with intent of catching those who underreport income). And I wouldn't be surprised if we've got mandatory RFID (or GPS) transponders on all vehicles before 2025.

Eventually, computers, GPS, biometrics, and RFID tracking could basically make all crime easier to solve (if not prevent since I don't think intent can be determined in advance of the act). So only those who think they can beat the computers will commit crimes, and those who just don't give a damn.

And it's all corporate. Most cameras are private.

I agree with sean, all muslims should be kept under camera surveillance.

I wish they would put fucking gps in our goddamn cars. You have no idea how many times not having that has pissed me right off and I FUCKING PAY FOR IT. Find my ass, tell me where I am, and where the fuck I am going. I am stuck in some horror movie backwoods place. I was accidentally in Indiana trying to come home from Ohio once. Goddamn GPS doesn't know SHIT once you get in the backwoods. Not onstar, not the little one on the dashboard that I can't remember what the brand name is. But I wouldn't give a shit if they monitored me if they ACTUALLY KNEW WHERE THE FUCK I WAS AND WHERE I WAS GOING and not try to run me off a goddamn cliff.

If technology worked, I'd love it. As it is they'd be as lost tracking me as I am trying to get out.

Plus I'm a nobody. Literally no one gives enough of a shit to track me.

Dear whiner,

If you have a car and a tank of gas, you aren't stuck anywhere and can leave any time you desire.

they should put a camera on each fence post. then I could sit and watch the corn grow in real time.

Google Maps is trying to look inside my bedroom window. I keep the curtains closed. I will still rinse the dishes and look at my backyard.

Well, there are some non-criminal things one might not want friends and family to find out about.

Then do them in the privacy of your basement, inside your tin foil wrapped anti-spy cone of silence chamber.

Do I have to tell you people how to do everything?

You're cranky!

Seriously, I hope you're joking about a chip to make a point.
