Smoke-filled, flannel optional (Gen X Lounge)

I’m late GenX and grew up on Nickelodeon. Did anyone else in the US (or Canada maybe?) have lots of British shows on Nick - like the Tomorrow People? Or maybe that was on PBS. Or do any Brits remember late 70s/early 80s kids sci-fi/fantasy shows?
As a kid, just Doctor Who for the most part, on PBS.

Holy shit I haven't thought about that in years! I used to love it and be scared of it too.
Similar love/fear movies from way back were Watership Down and The Wolves of Willoughby Chase. Honourable mention to The Dark Crystal of course but Supergirl too weirdly 🤷🏻‍♀️
Watership Down was originally rated "G: For All Audiences," the rating for little kids shows. It scared a generation.

It sure did but I adored it. Knew all the words to Bright Eyes and sang it constantly. It's only when I went to show my son and he was terrified that I realised it was maybe a smidge too intense

Used to watch Hammer House of Horror, and back to back Horror movies on the weekend with my Gran on BBC2 in the summer holidays
Boris Karloff , Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee
What place does Dr. Who hold in the British GenX experience?

Tom Baker was the first Doctor I remember, but I wasn't a big fan during those days

The book was required reading in 4th or 5th grade...
Riki Tiki Tavi
A Cricket in Times Square
Secret of Nihm
Charlotte's Web
also had that "Oh..." moment at the time.

I've come to realize that my GenX street cred is surprisingly important to me.

Music, movies, thought, and (yes) nostalgia from that time can often lift my spirits as I navigate the full-time world of adulting in middle age.

So, I invite my fellow GenXers to share their favorite cultural and life recollections from that messy period of latchkey afternoons, grunge, MTV, Cold War, etc.

Or not. Whatever.
Latch key kid here!!
All of it!! Born 1974 👍🏻

Just...to...uh...add to my "Latch Key Cred"...I was creating DnD characters before the "Official" DnD guide came out...it is safe to say, my "Fan Fiction" Mother got herself into the Beta Testing...

We also had a lot of American TV shows over here like Happy Days, wait till you're father gets home , Mork and Mindy
