Sm 101

I recently bought SM 101. I haven't started reading it yet, but was wondering if people thought this book was helpful. All reviews claim this book to be one of the seminal books on BDSM, but I thought I would ask people personally. After this book, I'm planning on reading 'Different Loving.'

Both books are seminal to today's BDSM culture. Jay Wiseman in particular has a comfortable writing style, and expresses himself with admirable clarity.

I've never read SM 101; just never made it to the reading list for some reason... Different Loving was good, but I always viewed it as more of an encyclopedia of kink, than BDSM specific.

Yes.

I've never read SM 101; just never made it to the reading list for some reason... Different Loving was good, but I always viewed it as more of an encyclopedia of kink, than BDSM specific.

CM's right about Different Loving, and I was lazy... I should likely have said that SM101 was seminal to the BDSM culture, and DL a great source for a broader understanding of the entire kink culture. Shame on me. I was kinda in a hurry with my original response, but that's no excuse for sloppy writing.

Depending on which side of the whip you occupy, I'd next go to either The Loving Dominant by John Warren or The New Bottoming Book, by Janet Hardy.

There are, in fact, many quite good books on the subjects of BDSM. Just remember to always get permission and a description of limits from any book you read before you try to smack it around.

I just ordered SM 101 & The Loving Dominant this morning. Most of my research/reading has been in forums (such as these) or online searches, so I am curious to see how it reads in my hands curled up on my couch.

(& to feed my inner geek i also ordered about 6 graphic novels too. Damn you Amazon & your temptation!!!!!)

I found that one a really good read and informative too.

makes a note to stay Far away from amazon not wishing to catch yet another book addiction

When I first was reading about BDSM, Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns was the first book I read, and I found that really good.

All of the above are worth a read though.
(Also has to studiously avoid Amazon ! )
