Lin

Throwing my notepad across the lab, I was almost ready to scream in frustration.

“God damn frigging son of a…….” Two years, two long frustrating years, and just as I think I am getting close, another problem comes to the surface. It was driving me crazy. There was a meeting of the board in two hours to discuss more funding and I was no closer to resolving this damn thing then I was a year ago. Running my fingers through my hair in frustration, I decided it was time to call in a little help. I had a few computer geek friends from Uni. that had been itching to get their hands on this project, and now I could see no other option then to let them help.

Logging into my email, I wrote my plea.

“OK Guys, here’s the one thing you never expected from the great and brainy Lin, HELPPPPP!!!!. I can’t get this damn thing to work and I need you. I am begging you, and if you ever mention this to anyone I will deny it till the day I die. I’ll be in the lab for the rest of my life so you’ll know where to find me.
On my knees “ and don’t get any ideas about while I’m down there”
Lin “

I hit send and made my way to the coffee machine to wait, this was soooo humiliating.

Goliath

Mean while, a car pulled up outside. Out stepped a small man in wearing a lab coat and a pair of glasses. Goliath, was his name. He had a small build for a man, at the age of 31 he was still to find that special woman for him But he didn't care for such things at that point t in life, he was working on a power generator which has taken him 8 years to get where he is, it still won't work. But yet, he is determined to make it work. "Lin must have a good reason for tearing me away from my work!"
As he walked to Lin's lab, passing all the young good looking girls, thoughts were running throw his mind. Of course he has had such thoughts about these girls before, which man wouldn't? Goliath, never made anything of it, since he was a professor at that Uni, and did not want to lose his job over some silly mistake with one of his students. He stops at a door, and knockss.

Click click click click. The monotonous roar of hundreds of keyboard being slammed through of memory each minute could drive a man insane, but in ten years he would have an 18 year old wife and a million sports cars. A small price to pay for everything he ever wanted.
The lab boys, a bunch of geeks and nerds in high school, were now still geeks and nerds in college.
"Hey, John. You wanna come play Dungeons and Dragons tonight?"
John Blore stared blankly at his computer screen. He sighed, letting the offer slide off him.
"Perhaps another time. I have so much work to do."
The blank screen lied to the both of them, but he wasn't about to say anything more.
"All right, catcha later."
They all left, worrying about pizza, beer and fantasy games. Blore almost pitied them, if it weren't for the fact that he was going to leave his job, crawl into his small dorm room alone and microwave another dinner. Such was a like of a genius.
A small click came from his screen. He popped up the screen intently. Ahhh, an e mail.

John looked at this with great interest. He had heard of Lin's project. She had graduated before any of them, leaving a lifetime of forgotten memories. It was a fantastic time, and she was a genuis with just about anything electronic. What in the world would she have trouble with.
The e mail came with an attachment. He quickly downloaded it, looking up the problem.
"Whoah...."
He would need some more coffee. This was going to be a long night.

Lin

Looking up from the pc, Lin was relieved to see Goliath standing in the doorway. She released a sigh of reliefe.

"Goliath, so good of you to come, it's been so long."

She climbed out from behind her desk and came to give him a hug, not very profesional, but they were old friends.

Neo

I arrived at the lab. The people kinda looked at me wierd because of my age. I was 18 and a hacker. I have green hair and I am am 6'6 250. So people always stair when I come threw. It could also be I am know there these part as a hacker. There has been built a computer i can't get into.I walked in the lab."Hello Lin remeber me."

Goliath

Returns Lin's hug. "Hello Lin, I am good thank you. How are you?"

Looking around the room he says. "What is it that you need help with?"

Lin

"OH My God Neo, look at you. I think the purple was better but the greens not bad. Of cause i remember you, the most anoying hacker on the block, the only one to ever crack my codes four times in the one night. Giliath, meet Noe, And what i need help with is gonna blow your mind."

leading them further into the lad i show them the most elaborate computer set up ever, built by myself of cause. Picking up a remote, i flick the switch and the pc comes to life.

"It set the peramiters and opens doorways to other worlds, at least it would if i could get the damn thing to work, that's why i need you guys. There is a fault in the program, but i just can't find it."

"Hello Neo, nice to meet you." Putting his hand out to shack hands. "Whoa! I never seen such a device before, it must have taken you years to build this. Is that what you have been doing all this time? I was wonder why I had not seen you when I came back from my trip. Now, I know." Looking at the computers, he sees a remote control tape of device. "What is this?"

Neo

"Kool you rember me.Yes I rember braking you code. You are very good . So lets get to the project . What wrong with it and how can I help you fox it. As I told once anytime you need my help I am here."

Lin

"OK, the bais of the problem is....it wont work and i am due to be reviewed for my grant i need to show them somehting or they are gonna can my project. I have come to far to let it go now. Here, have a look at the program, see if you can pick up what i am missing, cause i'm stumped and running out of time fast." I let them have the seat and stood back, looking over their sholders, trying to think, but desciding to call out for pizza to give my brain something to work on other than codes.

Goliath

Walking over to the computer, "Ok, I am not the best coder out there, but I'll give it a look. Though, I am better whith the little electronic parts" Looking at the coding, finding it strange. "Neo, I think you will be bettere here. I'll look at the device. Lin, where is the device?" Looking at Lin, taking in the beautiful sight of this beautiful woman.

Blore sipped the coffee, looking at the stats one more time. There wasn't a name or itinarary or anything. It was just a computer program, but unlike any other he had seen.
It's ellaboration and complex design only made it more seamless. This was a hacker's dream, and a programmer's nightmare. He decided to run the program, to see what was wrong.
The computer screen flashed as it went into the complex series of numbers and codes. It stopped abruptly, saying the equipment was all wrong. Of course, for a program this size, he would need something of a super computer.
At this time of night, there was only one he could think of. The database inside the ITC building on campus. That could run just about anything.
Blore copied it onto several disks and made his way there. It was locked, of course, practically midnight, and he was about to break into a college to help a friend.
A window happened to be open, he crawled through, making his way to the basement.
The computer whirred to life, and after a few minutes of downloading (which would have taken nearly a half hour like before, he loved this computer) he was all ready. A few things needed to be hooked up, like a printout. He needed stats on this, whatever happened, and the processor had to be upgraded. He set about opening the beast, and replacing a few chips with some of his own devices. Just things he kept in his backpack whenever such emergencies arose... and for him they rose quite a lot.
"There," he said to himself, running the program again. The screen flashed millions of lines of code as the program ran through it's course.
It stopped in the middle of a code.
"X recieving Y parameters can not be reached."
Y parameters? Lin had to have something else to respond to the program. He searched the entire program for Y Parameters.
A long list arose, but the most important one was on top.
"Y... World frequencies in tuned with Planet X."
He looked up planet X.
"Earth 1."
Earth 1? He chuckled to himself, how many worlds did Lin think there was? He input the question.
"Infinite."
"There's your problem. A computer can't read infinity."
He quickly changed the number, although the idea of it actually working simply amused him. Blore input the number 2.
"Identify Earth 2."
A flash shot through the screen. He looked at it curiously. He didn't think anything was supposed to happen. The computer stayed focused on a blank screen for a minute, and then read.
"Unable to locate recieving device, please install."
"Recieving device?"
He looked it up.
"Device capable of opening portals between worlds. Earth 1 and 2 can not be connected without device."
This was just getting weird. However he printed up a copy of the scematics for the "device" and set to work. The lab upstairs had more than enough things for him to accomplish the task.
It wasn't anything fancy, in fact it looked like something from a bad computer movie, but it would have to do. He plugged it into the computer.
"Run."
The computer whirred and flashed again. This time, when the screen stopped he looked at the small device he had created. Would something happen? He didn't think so, but still, if everything else was correct...
It beeped simultaniously witht the computer.
"Device Ready."
It was ready? Well, he wondered what he was supposed to do. He looked up how to use the device.
"Change ion frequency within device."
Shit, he wished he had known that sooner. He forgot to put a n opposite frequency diplacer inside. Looking at it, he saw that if he just crossed the two positive and negative wires, it would do that trick.
He switched the wires.
An explosion happened, then everything went dark.
"Shit," Blore said. He walked around until he found a flashlight.
"It must have fried the computer."
No, that couldn't have been it, because the lights were out too. He looked outside, nearly half the campus was dark. Holy shit, whatever he just did, or almost did, needed the electricity of over half the campus.
"Does that mean it almost worked?"
To answer his question he saw something at his feet. A rock. What was a rock doing here? he looked at it carefully, yes a rock was in here with him. He felt it, it was warm. As if it had been lying in the sun all day. Blore looked back at the computer, his flashlight on it warily.
"Does it work?"
He would have to get another computer with a better energy display. It looked like he was going to pay a visit to Lin tonight after all. He grabbed his stuff and ran from the dark building.

I arrived where the directions led me and saw a pizza boy was just delivering a pizza i paid the boy wand walked in. Since i was away in washington dc fixing their systems that some meglomaniac hacker put a virus in that nearly started nuclear war i didnt know the young man before he could introduce himself he ran off nearly nocking me over but i did know goliath he tought me some of what i know "Goliath How are you doing its been some time since we had time to talk." I then turned and saw Lin i havent seen her since collage but she looked as good now as she did then. "It seems this is yours?" handing her the pizza i got from the Delivery man. "What seems to be the problim that you needed us all here to help you with?" i sat down my steel eyes taking in everything and my ran my fingers through my new do i dicided to try a crew cut this time oh well

taking the pizza from Rick I reached out and shook his hand.

"Thanks for coming Rick, I know it was short notice, but i don't have a great of time."

I watched as Neo and Goliath tapped away at the keys, looking for possible problems with the programing. I had this cumputer built to handle the load with power to spare, and it was took up the bulk of my grant money. The computer itself should have been enough to keep the comitty happy, but they were never happy, and i needed tomething increadable to show them, and then perhaps i could even get enough funding to get a few of these guys on the payroll.

"What do you think guys? I have been looking at is so long i just can't see anything any more, i was hoping a fresh perspective and a new set of eyes would pick it up."

i watched the men typeing away at the keybords freverintly tryingto decipher it damn what i wouldent do if i got my hands on that but i was strictly anti viral and anti terriest threats so i was limited to that but my fighting skill were unparrale as i wondered to myself why did she want me here if it was just to watch over this wouldent any old security guard do as much as i am

Goliath

Typing away on the keyboard, he stops taking a brake. "Hello Rick, long time no see. Nice hair cut." Looking at Lin he says. "Well, I don't know, I think we should test it and see what happens. If we say what don't happen, we can work on that part." Lin walks over and turns on the device, lights flashing on the small device she has in her hands. She hits to 'Go' button on the small device. Nothing happens, Neo looks at the computer screen and sees something, he makes a change to it, then tells us to go again. Lin hits the button again, small electronic flashes happen around the device, then all the power goes out.

"Looks like we need a stronger power source. You are in luck, I have a small device at home which I have been working on for years. If we finish it tonight, and use it with the device you have in your hand Lin, I think it will work." Standing up, and putting his sun glasses back on, he moves towards the door. "I will be back in about 30 minutes." After saying this he walks out the lab, and to his car and drives off.

Neo

"Plus I think we might need a faster computer. I can get some equiment from NASA and the CIA. They both owe me . NASA for fixing there system . The CIA wanted to me to track one of there hackers that had made some virus to start Nuclear War.So what do think Lin I can make a call and have some extra equiment over here in a couple hours. Not to be rude. But stuff that blows the equiment away."

Lin

"Hey, if you guys have what it takes to make it work, go for it, I'm gonna eat my pizza and try to get my brain working again."

Sitting in a chair off to the side, i picked up my first piece of pizza. Yummy

Neo

"I grab my Phone. I make a few calls. Ok lin heres the deal. They will give me what I need. The only thing is . You don't know where it came from .Or why it it is here they said they can have it here in an hour. They have been looking for somtihng to pay me off with.Is that ok with you Lin"

Blore walked in extremely tired. The smell of pizza brought him back to his senses.
"Yes, it's been so long..." he grabbed a half eaten slice from Lin and finished it up.
"Sorry, I haven't eaten in hours. I had to do a few pitstops before I got here."
He smiled at the rest of the people in the room, he didn't know who they were, but it seemed as if they were here for thge same reason he was. He introduced himself with a halfhearted wave as he walked over to circuit breaker.
"It happened to me too, don't worry."
He turned the power back on, and pulled himself up to the television.
The lead story was about the power failure at campus. Blore had a small butterfly in his stomache as he waited for it to pass. A next one cme up.
"A local robbery at a RadioShack has police bedazzled. It seemed as if some sort of hacker made his way into the shop, stole hundreds of dollars in computer equipment and then flew off into the night. There doesn't seem to be any force of entry, but police are still positive it wasn't an inside job."
Blore looked at Lin, and then at his bag, which was bulkier than usual.
"Yeah, ok. So sue me, you want this to work don't you?"
He took another slice of pizza, walking towards the computer. Ahhh, this would prove if the rock had been some sort of hoax or not. He didn't know why this was so appealing to him, but it almost did work back there. He just had to know if it was true or not.

jackson

he sees blore walk in as he sits down to enjoy a pice of pizza thinking to himself that he really needed to put a lock on that door he would do so so that he can tell who is going to be in and who isnt ahh hell forget about it its my job just to stop leaks of information " Hea Hacker boy im sorry i happen to forget your name can i go with you to get the equipment right now i feel like a bump on a log not knowing anything about this type of computer stuff?"

Lin

Rubbing her hands over her tired eyes, she chuckled at the others. Here they were, the best of the best in the trade, and they were knocking stuff off all over the place to make this thing work. How much of the equipment would fall off the back of a truck, she just didn't want to know, but it did go to prove their passion for their craft. With a cheeky smile she looked at the galant geeks who had come to her rescue.

"I know nothing." she giggled again. Sone day this was going to really funny.

Neo

"There is no where to go they are here."Men in Black suits came and started to bring in equiment. It took them a couple hours to get everything in.They brought over a order slip."Is this everything you requested Neo. Yes it thanks for the quick help."The men in the black left."This equiment is the latest and greatest our country has. Some of this stuff has not ever been seen by people. With out very high secruity clearence. So people I don't know about you but I need asomthing to drink. This Soda is not doing it." I grabbed my Bag ." Who's up for some Jack and Coke. Or if any one wants strait."

Goliath

There was a knock on the door, swinging it open was Goliath, he had a box is his hands. Walking in the door he say. "Hey guys, I'm back. Now look, I brought the device I have been working on. It just needs some more work and it should work. It has enough power outage to supply a city if it is needed to. So it should be enough for us, if we get it to work. Now, if it works we can \connect it to the other device, this on" Pointing to the device Lin used to try to open the door way with. "This power device of mine is small, that's why it has taken me so long to do what I have. Well here it is." Goliath opens the box, and pulls out a small black box. It fit in to the palm of his hand. "Now, this is the casing to protect what I have inside it. Let me show you the inside." Goliath flicks a switch and the black case folds open, revealing a wired cube with a green spare in the middle with wires coming out linking into the side of the cube. "Now, a few more things and it should work. Oh, and do not worry. It wont run out of power either. In theory any way." Closing the black casing and putting the box on the table.

"Hey Goliath whets the big box for when this power device of your's is so small?" No asks Goliath, as he walks over to have a look in the box. "Ah, I see. So this is all your tools and stuff, cool."

Blore looked at the equipment warily. Something was definitally wrong here. On his way back from Radio Shack he had been thinking about the whole theory. Now maybe the rock did come from somewhere and maybe it didn't, but that still didn't answer anything of what he needed to know.
"Lin," he said, viewing the readout again, "I am curious about how you stumbled upon the project. There are a number of irregularites."
He plopped down the Input of Earths on the table.
"Now, when I first looked at this scematic, I thought you simply wanted go to other planets. A cheap way of travelling through space, if you will, but these charts are all wrong. They don't move the device anywhere in space, normal space anyway."
He viewed the way of how the device travelled.
"Look. A normal place in space has an X, Y, and Z address. Like earth, for example, it would be 0,0,0. Mars would be 0,1,0, and the moon would be 0,0,1. And so on and so forth. The problem with the addresses on these "planets" you are trying to get across doen't have three points, they have four."
He looked at it more closely. He had only heard of one person ever theorizing the idea of four pointed space addresses, and that would be across time. Not through time, like time travelling, but across it. As if the keys were to leave their own space time continuum and go to another rip in the universe all together.
Well, what if this were the case.
"Ok, so let's assume this is the case. How do you propose getting in touch with this other world? Inputing an address into a computer program like 1,0,0,0 is all nice and easy, but that address doesn't exist in the computer. It's like trying to send an e mail to a mail box. They are basically the same thing, but in reality it doesn't work. Why do you think this will work?"
The computer systems weren't half bad. He looked them ovr once, most of the ideas the lab rats had already altered on their own computers. Blore laughed as he saw a Pentium 4 inside, and carefully installed his own little version of the Blore 5.
He looked at Lin a bit defiantly. He wasn't purposely trying to dissuade her approach to this whole theory, it just didn't seem logical that it would work, or that alternate world's existed. She had to have some proof, or something.
