Here I sit in the darkness, only the glow of this purple and grey screen casting it's light on me. I'm tired, I'm groggy, I'm most certainly cold and wanting to go back to bed...but I can't.

For the past 5 nights, sleep has eluded me. I wake up around 3 am, toss and turn for about a half hour, only to give into sleeplessness and stumble my way to the office or living room....and here I sit.

I've tried hot baths, hot tea and "visualizations"...I'm wary of trying sleep medications, but at this point I could be swayed.

Anybody have any ideas?

Skip all caffinated drinks for the next couple days. Go to bed at the normal time each nite. If it keeps up for many more nites, try a nite or 2 of sleep aids, just to get your body sleeping. If it continutes, call your doctor.

~GASP~

Let me get this straight, did you say ALL caffinated consumables? EEEEEEEEEEEEK

Surely you can't mean my morning coffee also?!?!

~heart palpitations~

Keep the morning cup, but after like 10 in the morning, don't touch it. Oh, and don't forget, chocolate is caffinated as well. :)

I had to do it when I was pregnant. Harder than hell. Telling a pregnant woman she can't have chocolate or caffine. My doctor was the evil one. :)

One question...can I binge right now to stock up for this self-imposed torture?

;)

A bottle of single-malt whisky works wonders.

If you wake up you won't even be able to see the keyboard.

Binging will make the caffiene withdrawal headache worse. :(

Caffiene may not be your problem with sleeping. It might be stress, the weather, a change in your diet, or something medical.

A turkey sandwich and a glass of warm milk before bedtime might be enough to make you sleep all night -- I believe it's "triptophan" in Turkey that is responsible for making you sleepy.

You mentioned being "cold" -- is that because of being up, or could that be what is waking you up? Perhaps another blanket is all you need.

~wrinkles nose~

Mig,

I can't recall it myself, but friends and family members have thoroughly enjoyed supplying me with all the gruesome details of a night like that, spent in the company of a rather pricey bottle of brandy.

Now I can't even smell the stuff without feeling like I've been at sea for a week.

Needless to say, I'm not eager to try it again, but thank you.

Hmmm....food for thought, or well...sleep actually.

I can't stomache warm milk, but the turkey sandwich would go over really well right now. ~ tummy rumbles~

I didn't mean I was cold in bed, (eeeesh, that could open up a whole other can of worms!) I meant I was cold sitting here in front of my monitor. But thank you for thinking of it.

A cup of Hot Chocolate would be almost as good as warm milk -- which doesn't mean "heated milk," just milk that's not straight from the fridge.

The "cold" was definitely not meant to open a can of worms. ;) I was just wondering whether it related to the 3:00 AM time frame -- that's usually right at the coldest part of the night and I've noticed on camping trips that there's kind of a "psychic click" when the temperature reaches freezing that wakes me up. My reaction is usually to close up every gap in the sleeping bag and snuggle down into it but it often takes a while to go back to sleep.

Maybe there's some sort of "threshold" temperature that's waking you up at 0300.

I agree with Weird Harold your sleep problem may not have anything to do with caffine. I know that when I have problems sleeping, it is usually accompanied by some mental distress. One word of caution eating right before bedtime is not a healthy activity, the food is deposited as fatty substinces since you are in a slow metabolic cycle.

EEEEEK

~shudders at the thought of creating "fatty substances" in her bod~

Anyhow, until tonight the point is moot....I'm wide awake and brewing a pot of a glorious wonder drug right now. Perhaps I shall resume my search for a sleep aid tonight...when I wake again at 3:00 am.

Thank you all. I'm going to re-read your suggestions and see what I come up with.

~smiles~

Are you sure you don't have annoying, crazy neighbors playing really loud music? Maybe that's what's keeping you awake....Oh wait, that's why I'm awake.

I think I'm delirious.

Ooooh poor you!!!!

Actually I even eliminated the possiblity of my love's snoring keeping me awake, lord knows I should be used to it by now.

Actually just as I'm waking up, I feel achy and sore and I can't get comfortable again. I maintain a healthy amount of fitness and my days are full, so I'm tired when I crawl into bed. I tried a hot bath early this am to soothe, but to no avail.

I just don't get it.

That sounds a LOT like how I feel if the waterbed heater goes on the blink -- ie I get cold.

It could also be a result of weather changes -- getting colder, air presssure changing, humidity change, etc.

If this persists, a doctor's opinion would probably be a good idea. There are a lot of diseases that start with "achy and sore" as the first sign.

That's comforting.

:(

I'd rather just assume it's cause I need a new mattress.

Well, the police just came and got her to turn the music off, so it is quiet now. Too bad I am wide awake. I will probably crash hard this afternoon.

I hope you get some sleep. I agree with WH that you should probably get medical advice if this insomnia goes on to long. It could turn out to be something icky.

That's really a more likely cause, but don't discount the possibility of disease.

If I'm having trouble sleeping I find that a good orgasm helps to
clear my mind and get me off to sleep.

Hi Riles.

A glass of wine can do it for me, or a nice shot of cognac. Hopefully you have found the magic remedy by now.

To all of you, thank you for your imput. I'm systematically going through and eliminating options. lol

~smiles~ Hello Night...it sounds like a viable solution, perhaps I'll try that. ~wink~

Orwell, I have a glass of baileys in my hand right now, will that suffice?
