Whites make up 64 percent of the population in the US
Blacks make up 13 percent of the US population in the US

But in prison, whites make up 39% of the population
And blacks make up 40% of the population

In the US, a black person is 5 times more likely to be incarcerated than a white person.

So what does that mean?

Either you believe that black people are just 5 times more likely to be criminals (it's just in their nature!) or there's something seriously wrong with the system - and isn't that something everyone should be concerned about?

Whether you argue it's because of poverty, police profiling, or biased sentencing - it all falls under the same umbrella of systemic issues. The game is rigged.

Aren't prisons in other countries too? Is blacks the only race that gets locked up? Prison isn't slavery, just a place for bad people that made mistakes. So they could sit and think about what they done, and hopefully learn their lesson.

That isn't slavery. Not by a long shot.

Studies show that crime is most associated with poverty, and if you look at the poverty levels of blacks and whites, the prison numbers are in line with them - if not over-represented by whites.

Now that racism plays a part in income disparity is a valid argument.

Edited to add that it is also at play in profiling and sentencing as studies have shown.

drug arrests are made where the drugs are predominantly being bought and sold. police don't have the resources to patrol all neighborhoods with equal frequency, nor should they.

they go back to where crimes are recurring, logically.
crime stas skew socioeconomically, because criminal behavior is more prevalent among the lower classes than the upper classes.

rich white kids buy and sell drugs all the time. heroin use in fancy private schools is more than myth. when busted, they are rushed off to fancy inpatient treatment centers, while the black kid is locked up with a permanent record. criminal behavior occurs in all classes.

yes crime occurs on all economic strata, but it occurs more frequently in the lower classes.
