So here are some facts
Whites make up 64 percent of the population in the US
Blacks make up 13 percent of the US population in the US
But in prison, whites make up 39% of the population
And blacks make up 40% of the population
In the US, a black person is 5 times more likely to be incarcerated than a white person.
So what does that mean?
Either you believe that black people are just 5 times more likely to be criminals (it's just in their nature!) or there's something seriously wrong with the system - and isn't that something everyone should be concerned about?
Whether you argue it's because of poverty, police profiling, or biased sentencing - it all falls under the same umbrella of systemic issues. The game is rigged.
Oh, and there's this:
The 13th Amendment
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
The current black population in prison EXCEEDS any population of slaves before the civil war.
Consider now the exceptionally profitable model of private prisons...and prison labour.

Slavery in america didn't go away, it just got reformulated under a new, socially acceptable name.
