Blood boiled in Kona's veins. The bastards! Killing his brother, kidnapping his nieces and nephews and cousins and siblings, all of them. Tying him up and throwing him onto a ship without so much as a word. He lay in the middle of a pile of people from his homeland, forced to lay in stacks to make room, unable to move and hardly able to breathe. His hands and ankles were lashed together with chains. If not for them, he'd have killed the slavers by now.

Kona was a proud warrior of his tribe, but had been bested by the strange and terrifying ways of the humans. He was a large black beast of a werewolf, with hard amber eyes and white tattooing all across the left side of his body from the tips of his ears and face down to his tail and footpaws. He had been stripped naked for inspection, and left that way when thrown in the ship's hold.

He didn't know how long it was before suddenly sunlight blinded him, and he was forced to his feet after others were pulled off of him. A human tried to make him drink from a pail of fresh water, but Kona refused until his head was forced into the bucket. He was dragged down the gangplank to a dock, and water was thrown on him to clean at least the outer layer of grime off. He was handed a tough bar of soap, and directed to the shallow shoreline, still bound in chains, and made to clean himself. Once out, he shook his fur out and was assaulted with hemp-rough towels, then his fur was hurriedly brushed into a presentable state and he was forced to don a pair of brown trousers after his ankle shackles were released, only to be clapped back on. He snorted in disgust when a sickly cologne was sprayed on him, and he was smacked across the face for it. Kona soon found himself being dragged toward a square crowded with humans, all dressed in fancy clothes or mercenary gear, and he was made to stand in a line of fellow captives, all much smaller than him.

A scrawny werewolf was dragged up on a large platform stand and made to turn round completely and bare his healthy teeth and display his wiry body, and he was auctioned to a merchant needing an assistant to help care for his horses. Another went up, a brawny and short male. Kona's fifteen-year old nephew Kilio. He fought the auctioneer and captors so viciously, that he was suddenly dragged off the stand and whipped into unconsciousness. Kona could only look on in rage and horror.

Just about then, Duke Murdock Finn of Belfast arrived upon the auction with his daughter Luna, come to find her a slave to tame into a guardian. "Look at them, Luna. See how strong they are? Even the children could overpower a fully-grown man." He watched as a child was brought up with his pregnant mother, and the pair were sold to a vintner. Then, Kona was dragged onto the stand. Murdock smiled, "He's the biggest of them all. Would you like him, darling?" Kona stood proud on the stage, and he displayed his impressive body without needing direction from the auctioneer, and he bared his fangs viciously for them all to see they were pearly white and sharp as daggers.

Luna was the kind of girl that did not believe in taking creatures away from there home, it drove her nuts that her father thought everyone and everything could be bought, it was very easy to see she wasn't like her parents. Seeing the wolf before her his fangs bared and she got before him, not close enough in case he attacked but would be close enough to hear what she was about to say to him. Using his people's language, something she had learned a long time ago and told no one.

"I am sorry beautiful one, my kind sadly think they can buy everything not nailed down to our world" She said as a tear escaped her cheek and knew not what to do right now, but she looked at her father and was rather sad about the whole thing, placing her hands on her hips as she was about to speak to her father. Her dark brown eyes looked at her father unsure what to say or what not to say. Hanging her head she was unsure what she was about to say would be good.

"Dad not everything can be bought and things that can, what right do we have with them? All you see is a thing that could break a man in two, but I see the beautiful beings that they are. You want one to protect me fine, but I don't want you to interfere. I may have turned eighteen today. But I will be the one to feed him and to make sure everything is in order" Looking down she looked back over at the beautiful beast. Her parents never seemed to want to understand her.

Feeling lost she pointed to the one she wanted, which was Kona but she ordered the handler to handle him with care and respect. Something she had a feeling that would not even happen, sometimes she wondered why humans could buy everything. She knew his kind wasn't something that should be broken and used for god only knows what. Her father wanted a body guard for her. And perhaps the beast would be curious about how she could speak like his people.

Years ago she had been raised around a female wolf like him, she ended up dying of old age. Her mother had been given the women when she was a girl and something happened the wolf was killed when Luna was about four and no one told her the truth, she had learned how to speak the werewolf tongue. The female wolf was friendly but sadly no one in her family but her saw them as anything but beasts. Now was the time to learn what she could about them.

Hearing doors open as she noticed the werewolf but chained up with a muzzle on his face, it got her beyond pissed off and smacked the other human in the face. "how dare you treat him like some fucking monster, get out!" She shoved the man out and noticed that he could hardly move, she knelt down and looked at him. She silently reached her hand out to see if he would react to her but not violently. Her eyes looking into the eyes of the being before her, trying to show he would be okay with her.

Kona froze, hearing his native tongue spoken by a human girl, and he stared, shocked, even as he was dragged off the stage. After being chained, choked and muzzled within an inch of his life, he was forced to his knees before her to bow, but he wouldn't bow his head. Seeing the girl strike the human man who treated him so harshly made Kona wonder who this girl was. As she came close, he tried to back away, ears flattening in natural caution toward humans, and an involuntary growl ripped from his throat.

Murdock glared down at the wolf-man, pulling his daughter back to safety. "Watch yourself, wolf." Though Kona didn't understand the words, he knew the glare, and Kona snarled viciously up at the man, finally rising to his feet with some difficulty because of his chained ankles. Kona strained on the chains, and to the horror of many and the awe of children around them, one of the links in his ankle chains snapped and the chain severed. He stumbled at the sudden release of tension, and Murdock roared for someone to get new chains. Kona's ears flattened completely and he crouched low, ready to fight even if his hands and jaws were useless.

Luna was getting to the point where she was more annoyed then anything, she hated it when people were pissing her off. But the way he flattened his ears against his head she knew he was afraid and did not know what to do. She had to do something and did not know what to do, but her father pulled her back and right now she was just unsure what to do any more, things were not as they seemed. But then when she saw one man with a whip, she knew what was going on as another man came with the chains.

She took the whip for the wolf as she threw herself in front of him, her back was stinging but she slowly stood. "You have to stop this you scaring him, I know how to take care of this so back down everyone!" She yelled and gave one hell of an evil glare to the man with the whip and chains. She knelt down before the creature and bowed her head down to him instead of him doing the same. "Please I beg you beautiful and wise one, stand down I don't want them to hurt you" She said in his language, looking into his eyes as tears fell down her face.

Tears...for him.

Murdock decked the man with the whip instantly, and the man with the chains stood back. Kona stilled, shocked at this girl taking a strike meant for him, and he let his tense muscles relax under her touch as he saw her tears. He couldn't speak due to the muzzle and a leather binding around his jaws, but he nudged her cheek with his own and gave a small nod. He'd calm, for the sake of the stranger trying to save him.

Murdock could see his daughter had pacified the beast, and he spoke calmly, "Luna... take him to the horses, he'll ride with you. I'll be there in a moment... just don't uncahin him."

She just nodded to her father and looked back at him speaking again "I promise once its just the two of us I will unchain you and remove that stupid muzzle, so please I just ask one more favor. Please be patient a little longer. My father is pig headed and wont change sadly" She slowly placed her hand against his forehead and did as her father commanded of her, she took him down to the horses and was far from pleased with her father. But there was nothing to be done about it now, she just hoped this would be over soon.

Kona followed in silence, knowing his life was in this girl's hands. The ride home was quiet, but Kona felt at home on the back of a horse, as could be seen by how easily he rode. Arriving back at Belfast House, they were met by Murdock's tame werewolf servants. All of them spoke perfect, accented English and were pacified as could be with fear. Murdock talked to one of them, and his words were translated to Kona as a warning, that he would be whipped and confined if he caused trouble. He would be killed if he hurt anyone, and tortured to death if he hurt Luna. If he failed in his job as her guardian, he would be sent to the Belfast vineyards to do back-breaking work til the day he died. Kona listened, but he kept a defiant glare. And finally, Murdock let Luna have him alone, warning her to tame him quickly or he'd be made a plow mule. They were left alone in Luna's room with the keys to Kona's bindings. The chains were beginning to rub his already-scarred wrists raw, and the muzzle and binding was making it tough to breathe now. He shook his head helplessly, waiting to get the damn thing off.

It was quite and hated every moment of it, right now things were different. Being quite meant that nothing could happen fight wise, she worried about her new "pet" something that she would never see him. She saw him as a person as a man that deserved to be respected. And hearing the warnings she was just glad her father never found out what she knew, she saw the way he looked at her father though, and she admired that strength. And right now once everything was said and done.

It was just the two of them now, she slowly walked up towards him and knelt down. "Now I am going to remove your bindings as I promised, I can tell your in some pain. If I hurt you I apologize as you can see I am totally different then my father" She went for the muzzle first and removed the knots. And carefully removed the muzzle from his face, seeing just how beautiful he was before her eyes. "I will take a look at what ever wounds you have" She said softly and took the key.

Removing his chains "I know your language fluently because I learned it from one of your people, though I do not know if it was the same clan. No one knows that I can speak it accept others around here that are werewolves. But I differ from my peoples views, not all humans are the same very few of us do not agree with your kind being treated as slave labor" She looked into his eyes. "May I know your name?" She said smiling as she removed the shackles finally and offered him kindness in a smile.

Kona stared at her, not sure if he should fully trust her despite her kindness. He feared it was a ruse to make him screw up just so someone could whip him. So he decided to err on the side of caution. Luna would suddenly find herself pinned to the stone floor under his strong grip and weight. He bared his fangs to her, and he growled in a deep bass, "I am Kona, son of the Cetra... and I will not be a human's dog." He knew if he intimidated her now, she might not dare to have him whipped later. His great muscles bulged with tension and his eyes were narrowed on his prey pinned beneath him.

She looked at him and did not realize till she was on the ground and heard what he said, but her back was hurting her because of the wound. Looking up into his eyes she looked at him "I don't expect you to trust me Konda not right now, trust takes time. In time I hope you see me as a friend, I don't see you as a dog. I see you as a person, your people do not deserve to be used for labor like this. And I thank you to, for not bowing down to my father. He doesn't deserve respect, which was why I gladly took the whip" She could feel her back was bleeding.

Kona glared down at her, searching for dishonesty in her eyes. but he found nothing but truth. He sat back on his knees and pulled her up. He could smell the blood, and he slid round behind her in silence. After a moment, he muttered, touching the fabric of her clothing. "Take this off... Let me see your back."

She watched him closely and found he was highly unique, she sat up and removed her shirt exposing a very long and very deep wound from a whip, it was easy to tell there had been some kind of spike at the end of the whip since her back was torn up. She was forcing her tears away since she hated to cry it made her feel weak and useless, something she did not want to feel ever again.

Kona took the bloodied shirt from her hands and used it to apply gentle pressure to the gash. His hands were huge and warm and the warmth helped dull the pain much more than the cold of the drafty manor. And then, she felt his tongue begin to lap at the wound. Wolves often did this to stop bleeding, and he was using it just the same. It was common in his tribe to do so.

She winched as she felt his tongue against her back, she had never been cared for her father had wanted boy's yet was stuck with a girl, though her mother was pregnant again she figured it would be what her father wanted. A tear trailed down her cheek as she looked down a little bit, sighing softly. "Why are you trying to help me? you have no reason to trust me or to care right now" Her voice cracked showing she was crying even though he couldn't look at her face.

"Shush," he told her, continuing to lick gently over the torn flesh til all blood stopped flowing. He rose and searched around her room til he found a long clean cloth in the form of a spare curtain tucked in the closet. He tore it with his teeth and came to wrap it around her just below her chest to cover the gash and prevent infection. He then pulled a new blouse from her dressed and helped her put it on. "Try not to stretch your back too much for a few days..."

She felt what he did then watched what he was doing, she grew curious and noticed what he was ripping and gathering. She bit her lip when he began to patch her up and it smiled a little bit. Helping her get back to "perfect" order so to speak. She nodded and bowed her head to him in respect. "Thank you Kona" She said softly and slowly leaned in to kiss his cheek as a thank you, she got up and sighed. His tongue had seemed to ease the pain a little, and every little bit helped her as well.

Kona nodded slightly, but he looked a little lost. He was about to speak when the door suddenly opened and one of the collar-wearing servants and Murdock entered. Murdock glanced at Kona warily, then looked to Luna, "Luna, I brought a collar for him. He'll need one." He held up the wide, thick steel band with the key-opened latch, the key hanging from a cord in his hand. Kona growled, knowing exactly what it was.

She heard the growling from Kona and looked at her father, and had an idea. "Father....what if I can guarantee he wont run away and he wont hurt anyone. He will stay by my side and protect me, please don't make me put that on him." She bowed her head to her father and placed her hand on top of Kona's head trying to get him to try and relax, she was working on an idea. She looked at her father. "I have never asked anything of you father but please, I am now" She said looking at her father with love and respect.

"And if I am wrong you may punish me how you see fit.."

Kona settled under her touch, and Murdock lowered the collar, "He needs to wear it. If he's seen without it, he'll be fair game for the auctioneers or anyone who catches him. It's got a license to our household to keep him in our possession."

She took the collar in her hand "I will put it on him but I will not be having a leash on him, we are getting along fine father I promise you, he will not give you a reason to regret buying him" She said to her father and knew she would have to explain this to Kona.

"Fine." Murdock nodded and left with his own servant. Kona, looking confusedly at Luna and the collar, wondered if he was about to be betrayed. He wouldn't don a collar for a human, never, he told himself

She looked at Kona and knew her father wasn't happy but the man never was, she hung the collar up but did not try to put it on. "Collars are given because if you were to leave this house without a collar then any one could do what they wanted even if you belonged to me, and I know you wont wear a collar for me and I don't expect you to so please, if we go out stay by me okay? I would hate to lose a friend in the making" she said with a soft smile as she sat down on the ground. Looking at Kona kindly.

Kona's opinion slowly changed as he looked upon her and how she cared and tried to make his hellish situation bearable. So, without thinking, he stepped by her, took the collar, and closed it around his impressive and thick neck. He turned it this way and that til it was bearable, and he met her eyes with a silent nod of acceptance and trust, and he pressed the key into her hand. He'd just silently given himself to her, willingly.

She was surprised by what he was doing, it looked so damn uncomfortable and when he gave her the key she smiled to him stroking his muzzle. "You don't have to wear it at night if you don't want I can take it off for you then put it back on when you get up." She held the key close to her heart "This....means everything to me thank you...my friend" She said happily. Slipping the key in her pocket where it would be safe. "But I refuse to leash you like you see around here, you are a beautiful being not some pet."

"I am not a pet," he spoke to her in his beautiful natural accent, "I am your protector. You protected me, now I will keep you safe just the same... My friend." He drew her into a warm embrace but was sure to be careful of her tender back.
