Slain Illinois mother's three children found dead

Three young children were found dead Saturday, hours after a woman was charged with killing their pregnant mother and her fetus in a grisly attack in which authorities believe her womb was cut open after she was knocked unconscious.

Bodies of the two boys, ages 7 and 2, and their 1-year-old sister were found together in an apartment in the public-housing complex where their mother lived, Illinois State Police Capt. Craig Koehler said.

The kids were last seen Monday with family friend Tiffany Hall, 24, now charged with first-degree murder in the death of their mother, who is believed to have been slain days before her children disappeared. Hall is also charged with intentional homicide of an unborn child, prosecutor Robert Haida said.

Koehler declined to say whether Hall was suspected in the children's deaths. The cause of their deaths had not been determined and autopsies would be performed today, he said.

The whole horrible set of occurances would make a great thriller, with supernatural manifestations galore.

But the two realities are tragic, and my heart goes out to the family of these children and their mother.

The problem, Stella, in both cases is that both the Defense and Prosecution with line up their psychologists and Psychiatrists to prove this is or isn't mental defective behavior. As the case and court proceeds, the victims will be forgotten and that's just bloody sad

Hooey. The victims are not forgotten, either. In fact the more heinous the crime the more likely the first one they grab gets convicted. The horror of the crime itself becomes attached in the jury's mind to the fellow in the dock, without need of evidence.

What's really odd is that these crimes occured geographically not that far apart. It's horrifying. This one happened just a half hour's drive from my front door. The St. Louis metro area has had a series of heinous crimes against children and pregnant women in the last several years. It never ceases to sicken me.

I can't either, begin to understand why someone would do this. If you recall, it wasn't that long ago that a pregnant girl and the little cousin she was babysitting disappeared in East St. Louis. Scary indeed.

I'm just wondering if it will turn out as shallow and demented as the first reports indicated (that she was upset over a miscarriage, so did this to steal a baby). First reports are notoriously unreliable, but that is just horrifying beyond words. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be the first time something like that happened (and probably won't be the last). You wonder if this is a mentally derranged person, or someone who is just a sociopath because of damage done to her in life.

I'm not posting any more news links but the latest say the children were drowned by this evil woman (who already has two children, by the way) before she put their bodies into the washer and dryer.

So sad.
