How do you take care of yours? What products do you use (lotions/potions/creams/oils)? What scents? Sun care? Diet?

I am a slut for "soaps" and lotions and body oils. I'll totally splurge on stuff to make my skin soft. Personally, I prefer a tea tree body wash (although peppermint is nice, too). Then, before toweling dry, I put on a cocoa seed oil. For my face & hands, I use a lotion containing shea butter and hemp seed oil. Oh, and don't forget the water -- I drink at least 3 liters daily -- on top of any coffee/tea/soda.

Best shaving tip I've ever read (from a dermatology site) was to use a cheap hair conditioner instead of shaving cream.

So ... a la Cosmo, what are your skin care tips?

Best shaving tip I have came from a rockette. She suggested using a venus razor (by gillette) with a new blade and satin care shaving cream. Since I started with them I haven't cut myself once and have had no more razor burn :)

I try different face lotions in search of a favorite; the only thing I've stuck with as a basic moisturizer is Clinique's Dramatically Different lotion - the yellow stuff.

But I finally found something to help me blow dry my hair smooth. My hair is straight, but has this slight wave to it that drives me nuts when I want it to look professional for work. Sebastian's Shaper Smoothing Groomer feels very light, I only need a little bit, and it really does get rid of the fly-aways.

I feel like I just wrote my first commercial!

Here's another one.

This lotion is incredible & smells TERRIFIC -- and, this is the cheapest I've ever seen it: Hempz

Being a guy, I don't understand the question.

Guys don't take care of their skin? (Pity!)

Hmmmm ... might be something to consider, then. Who knows what might result?

I keep it clean. What else is there to do with it? Regularity, water and a bar of soap does the trick. Anything else is rocket science.

ps Xcept that time when I had an embarrassing rash the size of a tennis ball in my forehead. Apparently I'm allergic to the glue they use to fasten latex masks (I'm an on and off actor). Then I got me something weird on presctiption that made me smell like cactus juice for six weeks.

Hmmmm ... anything that will make it more attractive to the person(s) you want touching/licking it.

You took shaving tips from a rocket?

No wonder it suggested Venus.:D

(Come on now, people. It was a little funny.)

As far as I'm aware, most dermatologists (when pressed) will grudgingly admit that plain water (no soap no oils) is the best thing to wash in. Staying completely out of the sun (wear hats) is all the protection you need.

As for that water intake thing, as long as you eat enough you will get enough water.

It's what everything is made of*.

Gauche

85% of school kids are made of water.

I'm also a slut for the smell-good stuff in the shower. I should own part of Bath & Body Works by now.

My current favorite is one they don't make anymore: White Ginger and Amber. Fortunately, I caught it when they discontinued that particular one, and stocked up.

Since I have tons and tons of hair, I tend to spend the most money there. I have enough hair products to stock a salon. Anything by Matrix is awesome.

I inherited my skin from my mother. She was 24 when I was born and from my teens through my forties strangers always thought we were sisters; she always looked 10 to 15 years younger than she was. I'll be 58 next month (eek).

I stopped using soap on my face in my teens, it always made my skin feel taut and dry, so I used only water and later a mild astringent. In my late 30s I began using ordinary moisturizer around my mouth and eyes (otherwise it took a couple hours after washing for the dry feeling to go away). I like facial cosmetics though so I'm always trying out new lotions just for the smell or feel of them. I still wash my face with just a cotton ball of toner diluted with water.

I should be darker but I stay out of the sun cos I've had friends who developed skin cancer and I know it's not worth the added color.

Just saw this. When I was very young our family doctor said that to us, and later stated that no cosmetic creme would deter or reverse aging. I believe that still.

I had a great dentist once who told me it was unnecessary to use toothpaste, that it did not do anything to clean teeth better than the brush itself, nor prevent cavities. At the time I was pregnant and brushing my teeth made me gag. I've used just the tiniest bit of toothpaste since (nearly 30 years), just to get rid of 'morning mouth' more immediately. My teeth are fine too.

Hmmmm, skin, both my wife and I use soap and water. It seems to work well. For her hair my wife uses whatever is cheap, plus the conditioner to match. For shaving though she has a somehwta unique approach, she has me shave her. She hasn't had a nick in twelve years, and loves the attention. (Guys, a hint. Lot's of shaving cream, and use a male raisor with mul;tiple blades. Finish with baby Oil.) I shave her pits, legs, and where ever selse she wants.:p

By the by, her tan lines are minimal, and she uses plenty of tanning oil, (Panama Jacks,) and plenty of Aloe.

I've yet to try anything by that brand that I don't love and they have tons of yummy body washes. Currently in my shower: Orange Sherbet & Key Lime Pie. :)

Ooh, I like their stuff too. I wonder if Joe W. has discovered it ;) . P.

Have you tried their shaving gel? They ain't kidding when they say super close. Makes your legs slick as glass and the razor just goes flying.

Oooh how fun. :D

Face- for cleansing- Noxema. I don't usually use lotion.. my skin hates it, lol.

Body- just about anything. Usually Bath and Body works stuff, and most often, Plumeria. (Shower gel and lotion.) If not, Lever 2000 makes me happy. Nothing smells more fresh or sunshiney. :)

Hair- being a hairstylist, I guess I'm supposed to be promoting professional products. Boo for that, LOL. I use Suave shampoo. Lavender mostly. I did just buy some Dove today though, lol. The girls at the shop absolutely shit about that, hehe.
I like to make my hair big. (Naturally curly hair really wont do much else, lol.) So I dont usually use conditioner. It makes it too soft. :)

To me, who didn't know it was a brand of skincare products, that sounded like a really bad idea. My first reaction was "What, she just ponders washing up?" ;)

Yeah -- this stuff is nice!

SeaCat -- An organic (nut/seed) oil will absorb better than mineral (baby) oil, enhancing the results.

The stuff I use is chosen as much for TASTE as for scent or feel.

Sherman Allen - Skin

You gotta have skin.
All you really need is skin.
Skin's the thing that if you got it outside,
It helps keep your insides in.

It covers your nose,
And it's wrapped around your toes.
And inside it you put lemon meringue,
And outside ya hang your clothes.

Skin is what ya feel at home in.
And without it, furthermore,
Both your liver and abdomen
Would keep falling on the floor.

(And you'd be dressed in your intestine)

A Siamese twin
Needs an extra set of skin.
When the doctor knows that you're feeling sick
Where does he stick his needle in?
In the end of your skin.

All your friends and all your kinfolks,
Whether poor or whether rich,
They have all got lots of skin, folks,
It's convenient when they itch.

(Nothing can match it when ya scratch it)

It fits perfectly.
Yours fits you, and mine fits me.
When you're sitting down, it folds and looks grand.
And then when you stand, it's where it's been.
Ain't ya glad you've got skin!

When you were just a little baby, why your skin fit fine.
And it still is gonna fit you when you're six foot nine.
So whether you're fat, tall, big, small, chubby or thin,
Ain't ya glad you've got skin

Skin care ---

Well, I use Dove soap in the shower with exfloilating gloves to keep my skin soft. I also use Oil of Olay bath lotion after I shower. It helps retain moisture. I use a pumice stone to keep my feet smooth.

When I get out of the shower, I must confess that I use a sunless tanning lotion with some extra lotion so that it will go on evenly. I use this sunless tan, even in the winter, to keep my skin glowing.

On my face, before I use make-up, I will usually use a firming lotion.

I was very lucky - I never had skin problems. I think in all my years, I may have had 3 pimples... and that was in my teen years, so I would dot a bit of brown eyeliner on it to make it look like a beauty mark...no one was the wiser!!!
