I'm watching it now. It looks like there was only three cars in the water. Three were rescued. No word of any dead. I hope it stays that way.

Breaking news:
The reports are a truck carrying an over-sized load hit part of the over head structure of the bridge and started the collapse. That was from a guy who was ahead of the truck and saw it happen. He said he saw some steel fall when the truck hit it but continued on his way. He didn't know the bridge had totally collapsed until he heard it on the news. They have a picture of the truck and load on the News. Its some kind of square structure that appears overly tall as well as overly wide.

Fuckin truck drivers.

I had to pull over on the way to work this morning for a police escorted oversize load....it was coming from the shop I work at:rolleyes:

Uh oh, somebody forgot to do a tensile test, or was that a load check?

One of the big problems is that this is the main aerial between Canada and the US in this part of the country. The report last night was that the south bound traffic was backed up to the boarder crossing at Blaine, about 50 miles.

The bridge was installed in 1959, the year I-5 was pushed through to Canada. It was found functionally obsolete in 2000 and again in 2010.

According to a traffic study done several years ago, that bridge had an average of 71,000 trips a day. Yea, barges will be required. I hope they don't try the same stupid stunt they did when the Hood Canal bridge went down and tie a barge to a tug as a make shift ferry. That ended up capsizing and killing one of the crew.
