Situation with WH must be very bad, if the person that denied the Comey memo, will not step forward.

"The White House is denying a New York Times report that President Donald Trump asked former FBI Director James Comey — who he fired last week — to shut down the investigation into the administration's former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn."

White House official denied the report, which was also confirmed by outlets including NBC News, the Washington Post, CNN, CBS, ABC News, the Financial Times and the Associated Press. “While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn. The president has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies, and all investigations. This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey,” the official told Time.

The White House put out a statement denying the accuracy of Comey’s memo. “This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the President and Mr. Comey,” said the White House statement.

A senior administration official questioned the veracity of the Comey memo, asking why he didn’t express his concerns earlier and why acting FBI director Andrew McCabe said there was no interference during recent Capitol Hill testimony.

The news outlets are respecting the official's, or the officials's identities Why are the denials anonymous ?

HR McMaster stood up, and made a denial. Why is no one willing to stand at the podium, and face the cameras ?

We are still left with the mystery, of why Sean Spicer shouted from the doorway, hid in the bushes, and avoided getting his face photographed, or otherwise recorded.

Mueller Appointed Special Counsel for Russia-Trump Investigation

Washington Post said-

Under the order signed Wednesday by Rosenstein, Mueller is tasked with investigating “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump’’ as well as “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation’’ and any other matters that fall under the scope of the Justice Department regulation covering special counsel appointments.

“If the special counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the special counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters,’’ the order states."

New York Times explains:

Mr. Mueller is viewed by members of both parties as one of the most credible law enforcement officials in the country. He served both Democratic and Republican presidents, from 2001 to 2013, and was asked by President Barack Obama to stay on beyond the normal 10-year term until Mr. Comey was appointed.

Speculation-

"It came could be (Deputy Attorney General Rod) Rosenstein blindsided Sessions and Trump, as ABC’s Jonathan Karl suggests:

(tweet listed at New York Magazine link)

New Yorker magazine

"Rod Rosenstein’s decision is an important indication of the shifting mood in Washington: his appointment of Robert Mueller was an act of self-protection. A career prosecutor who was criticized for lending his voice to the firing of the former F.B.I. director James Comey, Rosenstein has chosen to hand off the Russia investigation, rejecting Republican leaders’ repeated statements that such a move was unnecessary, that he should soldier on amid criticisms of his independence. This is the move of a man who does not see his fate as strictly aligned with the President’s."

- Evan Osnos

"One short anecdote illustrates why Robert Mueller has a sterling reputation as a defender of the rule of law, and why he may be exactly the person the country needs in this tumultuous moment."

"Back in the first days after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, there was such white-hot hatred for the perpetrators and suspected terrorists that it spilled over to their American defense lawyers."

"The few lawyers who dared represent these individuals were treated as lepers. At one Washington dinner party, as I report in my book “The Dark Side,” the issue caused guests to turn on Thomas Wilner, a well-heeled corporate law partner who had stepped forward to defend a Guantánamo detainee."

According to Wilner, Tom Green, a prominent criminal-defense lawyer at the table, asked him how he could possibly justify representing such a client. Amid the chilly silence that followed, according to Wilner’s account, another guest stood up. It was Mueller, then the F.B.I. director, who raised a glass and said, “I toast Tom Wilner. He is doing what an American should.” Hopefully, Mueller will now do the same."

Trump Is Shredding Credibility Of White House Officials

May 16, 2017

Trump directly undercut his own national security adviser's statements on a controversy reaching a fever pitch in the nation's capital.

And now it is it is H.R. McMaster's turn to expend his personal credibility in service of this president."

Vice President Mike Pence twice has been shown to make false statements publicly on behalf of the president.

Trump contradicted just about everything that Pence had said, starting with the vice president's claim of the central role the Rosenstein memo had played in deciding Comey's professional fate.

The Trump administration issued a statement saying that Comey's account wasn't true.

White House disputes explosive report that Trump asked Comey to end Flynn

Is there any difference between the "White House," and the "Trump administration" ?

Powell, Tillerson, and McMaster are only the latest in a line of administration officials to make statements defending Trump or denying negative press coverage, only to be contradicted by the president’s own statements.

(Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, sent out to face the press.)

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, is not willing to be the fall guy.

It was just a joke! ha ha

Jonathan Chait disputes the theory that Trump was joking-

"Trump instructed the other attendees of the meeting to leave the room before he said it to Comey. That is not what you ordinarily do when you’re about to tell a really good, albeit dry, joke."

"Trump made his “joke” about wanting Comey to halt the Russia investigation, and Comey did not halt it, Trump fired Comey. Nobody would be that committed to a bit."

"Trump wrote firing Comey has a sentence implicitly casting Comey’s decision not to investigate Trump personally as a point in favor of his keeping his job: “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau.”

Trump did not mean what he was saying, he was just musing, out loud-

President told NBC's Lester Holt on Thursday night he had already decided to sack Mr Comey before his deputy attorney general recommended it, adding by way of explanation that "this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story".

Trump said-

"When I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won."

White House briefing, NBC’s Peter Alexander asked whether Americans “can trust it to be real” when the president comments on something.

March 13, 2017 2:38 PM EDT - White House press secretary Sean Spicer said the American people should trust President Trump, “unless he's joking,” during his daily briefing on March 13 at the White House.

Sean Spicer said- "He (Trump) doesn’t really believe that President Obama tapped his phone personally, but..."

Very bad? Careful, you don't want to start a riot with panic inducing, inflammatory language like that. Better to yell pea soup during a projectile vomit incident.
