Sirens

Saw the Odyssey (I liked it) and it does have the siren scene in it so it got me thinking about mythological sirens. A couple fun facts, sirens were originally depicted as featherd women, closer to what we would consider harpies. Not sure but I think they got combined with mermaids over the years to simplify things. The other thing is that they didn’t sing because they were hungry: they were actually cursed to have to kill themselves if someone heard their song and passed by them.

Now for story ideas:

1. Modern day, guy is sailing and hears the song and sails his ship into the rocks…but this man is built different and that doesn’t kill him. He instead climbs the rocks and winds up next to the siren who is very freaked out as she’s worried he’s going to kill her or pass by her, which will also kill her. However, he’s entranced by her even when her song stops so she decides to find a way to keep him there.

2. Siren and a mermaid have a working relationship. Siren calls them in, mermaid provides the “visual stimulation” and then they share the loot and “spoils.” One day though they come up against a gorgeous woman who is legally blind and half deaf so their powers don’t work great and they both start to want her in a different way

Well, I am pretty deaf, and I don't see too well. I think that's a bit of the reverse of what you're going for with number 2 though.

Spot on about the sirens btw. The Greeks also had furies and minor gods and goddesses that had wings, fish tails, or even both. There's so many different things you could pull from in the Greek mythology alone if wanting to write about sirens of any sort, it'd kinda be hard to choose to be honest.
