What do I need to record me singing? I'm guessing a mic. I used to have one but it's *of course* at my parents house in Chi-town.

What kind of program? Is there a playback so I can hear it first?

Check out a little program called Audacity. It's free, it allows editing, and Google search will show you where to get it.

You have a mic in on your sound card. They suck, but you can use the little $10 variety at Radio Shack. It's got a 1/8" plug on it (the same as the sound card input). Then you can record with your sound software (I do it with sound blaster). You can PM me or call and I'll walk you through it.

Depends on how good sound quality you need. What's the recording for?

A simple table mic into your computer's soundcard is quite ok for just posting your voice online for fun. Unless your soundcard's mic in port is totally whacked and deliver too much hiss on it's own.

If you want better quality, opt for a USB soundcard and a good handheld mic.

Audacity that cant mentioned is good and free. But if you don't mind using shareware (but fully functional even without registration), I recommend Goldwave. (www.goldwave.com) It has a really kickass noise filter functions that takes care of a lot of the background hum.
