Musician was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer three years ago.

NEW YORK - Dan Fogelberg, the singer and songwriter whose hits “Leader of the Band” and “Same Old Lang Syne” helped define the soft-rock era, died Sunday at his home in Maine after battling prostate cancer. He was 56.

His death was announced Sunday in a statement by Anna Loynes of the Solters & Digney public relations agency, and was also posted on the singer’s Web site.

“Dan left us this morning at 6:00 a.m. He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side,” it read. “His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him.”

I just heard “Same Old Lang Syne” on my way home tonight and I have to admit, it still makes me a bit misty eyed sometimes.

It always will for me, too. For years, I associated that song with my high school girlfriend, for some reason.

We'll miss ya, Dan.

I have a friend who really loved his music
If not for him I would not have known or appreciated who he is
RIP Dan:rose:
Much love to his family:kiss:

he was one of those that defined my high school years. Damn.

The story I wrote for the holiday contest was based on "Another Old Lang Syne." It was too sucky to submit though. Wondering if I should now anyway. :(

Love when you can
cry when you have to

damn, goodbye to another part of my youth:rose:

BTW - TK - post the story, dedicate it.

Twin Sons of Different Mothers was a favorite of mine back in the 70's, I guess. Also Phoenix, I still have that one on vinyl.

It's sad to see musicians we grew up on pass away, especially those that gave us the mellow background music of our lives.

Ol' Dan goes to be with his musical brothers and sisters.

Requiescat im Pace

Must be a damn fine band in Heaven. ;)

I came to appreciate Dan and his music only reasonably recently......Just loved "Tuscon, Arizona".

The music will live on.

I hate it when I read threads like this and go, "Oh I know who that is!"

RIP Dan, and God Bless those you have left behind.

wow:( I hadn't listened to some of his stuff in awhile. Lots of memories with those songs.

Huh. Great minds and all that. ;)

(Except I got the name of the song wrong )

:D

I'm actually calling mine "Auld Langsyne," as I had seen it written once.

Go on and finish yours. I'm including in my story a dedication to Fogelberg.

Mine was going to be "Another Auld Lang Syne," which is why I screwed up the name of the song. Mine's finished, but it needs some serious editing, and then I still don't know if I want to submit it.

I might be able to take a look at it . . . .
