Simple art program recommendations.

I'm going to start selling my stories online and would like to find a simple art program that will help add text to a piece of art, for the cover. I need to add a title and my name. I could do it on Paint but it would look awful. A free program perhaps that has a some decent options for text perhaps? Thanks very much.

The thought occurs - how about going one further, Rob, and asking for a 'simple art programme' which could actually supply reasonable quality illustrations for the text?? If that doesn't yet exist, it surely will before long.

Then we could do away altogether with the need for 'artists' and avoid their self-obsession. After all, I'm sure they'd prefer to be left in peace and quiet rather than be pestered continually for help... and from my side, if I have to pay money, I'd rather pay for something which is consistent and reliable rather than opinionated and prone to doing its thing regardless of what I've stipulated.

Thanks very much. I will be using AI art. I'm a fair writer, but a lousy at any sort of drawing. Gimp. That is rather appropriately named in this instance.

I use an app called Phonto on my iPhone to add text to images.

Irfanview does fairly well.

Not too difficult to pick up on things like adding text to images. I mean, if I can do it .....

Sad to hear that you plan to use A.I. imagery.
Be sure to attribute the software ON the image... can be small, but it is worse than rude to pass that off as your own work.

Thanks. I will. And I understand your feelings. I would feel the same if a good artist couldn't write and did the opposite. But a cover of stick figures won't sell my story and paying an artist puts me in the red before I've even started. The publishing company will provide covers for a modest fee but they are AI as well.

There are artists in here who have indicated a willingness to do commission work. Also, you could look at fiverr -- some fantastic artists in there who will do something with merit for the cost of a dinner out for four.

I use pixlr, the free version will allow to to add text to a photo or image.
