How do I apply Script signatures to my storylines?

Also is there a reference guide to editing and signatures?

Easy

I'm not sure what you're asking, but as you can see, your sig line here isn't working. The forum uses brackets ([ ]), not angle brackets (< >), which is what story text here uses.

Can you give examples?

Can you give examples?

Well, look at anything on the forum that appears bolded or in italics. It was set up with brackets: opening with [ ] and ending with [/ ], using a "B" inside for bold and and "I" inside for italics. For the story file text, it's different. the coding there is with angle brackets: <B>. The OP used the wrong coding system in the sig line here.

(It's hard coding as an example here without the coding disappearing and only the effect remaining)

There is no need for <p>, a simple enter key will be accepted as a blank line.
If you want to use <p align="center"> the Lit forum signature version is [center ] but without a space before the final ].
&nbsp will not be recognised at all (see blank lines above).
That is what I know.
I suspect (from 10 years here) that most of the [img parameters will be ignored and you will need to use the image icon in the set up information box.

Just to display my ignorance, does <p align="center" > work in story text here and does it simply work like 'center align' in Word by leaving jagged left and right margins? Does it need </p> at the end?

Also, how do you indent a passage from left and right, i.e. but leave the reduced block of text with even left and right margins? I remember dark posted something about it a while back. I can't find the thread but think he mentioned <blockquotes>

<p align=center> doesn't work at all in stories. You have to use <center></center>

<blockquote></blockquote> Indents a little from the left and right, and is allowed in Lit stories.

As to forum signatures:

http://forum.literotica.com/misc.php?do=bbcode

All the information is there, from the "FAQ" link at the top of the forum :)

The noparse bbcode is listed in the link, which lets you display bbcode without it parsing on the forum, in order to display exact examples

Anybody who allows normal users to put HTML into posts or sigs these days is nuts.

Do you mean I can use this in the txt file used for submitting for my stories?

Yes, center and blockquote are both automatically allowed tags that won't trigger the HTML cleaner in the text processor. If you type them into your document, they'll show up in the final posting as the expected formatting.

The only other ones I know that work are <b> <i> I'm not sure about <u> as I've never had a use for it, and I think it confuses most users who think it's a link.

You can also use html special characters such as — ♠ (etc.) though you may want to put a note in the "notes" section if you use a lot of them side by side in a scene break, for example. Those also automatically parse, but a bunch of them strung together can cause a knee-jerk rejection for HTML if Laurel sees them and doesn't realize what they are as she hurries to get the day's new stories approved.

Sorry I should have read:
and
before I asked that question.

Just another newbie issue trying to figure out which how-to is essential, i guess.

Is there a FAQ or how-to listing all the HTML tag entries?

This might help. I don't think anyone suggested this particular piece so far.

Great suggestion ML. Laurel should add it to the submission FAQs.

Couple of comments on AdK's piece; if you right click on the mouse you can get 'select all' - which is a boon and I have no probs cutting and pasting in Rich Text Formatting rather than Plain Text F. Are there any subtleties that make PTF superior to RTF?

Why have you had to have that quesiton? You haven't posted a story in years.

Since you don't know the alter ego I post to this site with - and I'm not enlightening you - I'll forgive your rudeness.

BTW, it's 'question' not 'quesiton' - unless the CMS has dictated otherwise.:D

You need to post your advice under the alter ego, then (which I don't believe for a minute). Because you have zero credibility on either content or submissions under the Elfin name (and keep making it worse).

Ehm... sorry for saying this.

The link suggested is the "Bold or Italic" how-to I was referring to. (kicking myself for correcting a moderator)

Laurel should add it to the submission FAQs.

And yes. Both the things in my post was picked up from the long "Writer's Resources" listing.

Darkniciad suggested that blockquote and center work as well, apart from bold. italics and underline.

Which brings me back to the question:

Is there a FAQ or how-to or anything listing all the HTML tag entries?

With dark's advice I've just used <blockquote> and it works fine. Not sure when <center> would be useful in a story but <b,i,u> are fine. Why underline anything in a story?

No, I don't think there is an HTML FAQ but dark is usually kind enough to give help.

This is a really useful thread which is giving great advice to many of us. I am enjoying and learning from it.

Please, if you have nothing helpful to add, avoid the ad hominem attacks. No-one else cares about your penchant for stalking me and we don't enjoy thread hijacking.

My penchant for stalking you. That's funny. :D

Check out her story file, folks. The last one was six years ago--an essay on bra sizes. This don't make her an erotica or Lit. submissions expert, even though she likes to pretend she's a guru. The mistress of the easy button.

Not sure when <center> would be useful in a story but <b,i,u> are fine. Why underline anything in a story?

I've used the center tag in other stories (posted on other sites -- I know I'm a newbie here!) when I insert dividers between scenes. I usually put a few ***** between the scenes to indicate the shift, and I think it looks good when it's centered. One time, I used the center tag to offset the beginning bit of text to make it look like a warning someone had written on their diary, and that time I think I also used the underline tag to indicate how it would have been written.

I'm so glad you posted this, because I've just started posting to Literotica and I didn't realize that you could insert html into the submission form. I'm sure they don't want to deal with people coding improperly, so they don't list that fact in the Submission Guidelines or FAQ. But some of us newbies are used to coding our own stories!

Thanks!:)

There is no need in stories (the OP was asking about signature blocks, I think) for any coding but italics and bold (and as little italics as possible and practically no bold). Authors aren't book designers and the style of the story file here has need for nothing but those two. Fancy formatting in the the Lit. story file serves no purpose beyond distracting the reader--used to the standard formatting--away from the content of your story.

I'm assuming this is a response to me, since I'm the only person who has posted claiming to use the center and underline tag. Obviously the formatting is there for a reason. If they didn't want people to use the formatting, then they would have excluded it. And honestly, if centering *** to separate scenes is distracting to your readers, then that doesn't say much about the content of your story.

Not specifically to you, no. I just thought I saw the conversation moving away from signature blocks to story text. I didn't check where it started. By all means, though, ask the website editor how much coding they like to see in the story file. You can code as you like, of course.
