Sick-sick-sick! Will it never end.

sweet jesus christ.

The school officials will be damned lucky if they manage walk away with only losing their jobs.

Sigh.

When are people in positions of responsibility going to learn it's 'Do the Right Thing' not 'Cover Your Ass'?

Unbelievable. Where do you begin? No charges filed. No call to the police. Dozens of students watching, yet no one tries to help the girl? Someone even video tapes it.

If it were my daughter, I'd be all over every news show that would allow me time. The firing of the principal would only be the beginning. I would make it my lifes mission to prosecute or ruin everyone involved, including the witnesses.

It's nothing new.

More than once, when I was a kid, I got the living shit pounded out me by several bullies. With a crowd watching.

The school's reaction was the same as in this case.

Parents wouldn't help. My dad's reaction was, "When are you going to learn to stand up for yourself?" My mom had learned not to 'defy' my dad. The police couldn't have been bothered.

And some people wonder why I grew up to be the person I am.

And some people very much like the person you are.

The only thing about that story which I find surprising is that the principal, or one of the vice principals, did not confiscate and destroy the tape. Perhaps the girl’s father called the cops before they could lay their hands upon it.

Not that she would agree, but the girl in this situation had two advantages. Her father believed her and wasn’t intimidated by the school. There is a video tape in existence as evidence, so getting justice is not merely a matter of her word against the school authorities.

Don't you wonder how often something this sick has happened where the parent was not willing to believe the child, or not prepared to face the notoriety involved in reporting the incident, or assertive enough to oppose school authorities?

When other people stop blaming them... even if it they had nothing to do with it.

"Better you should hang a millstone around your neck and throw yourself into the sea than to lead one of my children astray."

Poor children. Thank God the first one has a father with some backbone and sense to him. What a God-awful thing. And yes - what the hell kind of balls did the witnesses have? What guts would it have taken simply to have stepped out of the room and summoned help?

I know when I was in High School there was the mentality (for some) that they knew they were untouchable. Kids are smart. They normally get a slap on the wrist and then walk free. The thing I find troubling (because I'm conflicted in the same way) is that many times I read the offender's parents back them regardless of the evidence. It's not all that unusual to see parents denying their child's participation at all... then the video tape shows up and their story swings to one of excuses about their kid just following the leader, etc. I hope I'm wise enough and strong enough to put the screws to my child if she ever wanders so far astray.

I, for one, would like to see some intense investigating going on and none of this deal-cutting crap for kids. I want to see them doing some hard-ass community service, spending time in juvenile hall, getting a more down-to-earth idea of life as a criminal. I don't like that they seem to get off so easy. I know all cases are a bit different, but it's rare that I hear/see any real justice done.

Very sad for the victim.

This is more than sickening. Beats CD's thead easily when you consider that it's kids, and adults covering up. Here's the sad tale:

Witnesses: Teen Assaulted on Videotape

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A 16-year-old disabled girl was punched and forced to engage in videotaped sexual acts with several boys in a high school auditorium as dozens of students watched, according to witnesses.

Authorities are investigating and no charges have been filed in the alleged attack last month at Mifflin High School. Four boys suspected of involvement were sent home and have not returned to class.

Also, the principal, Regina Crenshaw, was suspended and will be fired for not calling police, school officials said. And three assistant principals were suspended and will be reassigned to other schools. Crenshaw had no comment Tuesday.

The girl was forced to perform oral sex on at least two boys, according to statements from school officials, obtained by The Columbus Dispatch. Part of the alleged assault was videotaped by a student who had a camera for a school project.

School officials found the girl bleeding from the mouth. An assistant principal cautioned the girl's father against calling 911 to avoid media attention, the statements said. The girl's father called police.

Her father said the girl is developmentally disabled. A special education teacher said the teen has a severe speech impediment.

Damn, I'm mad. This is occurring too often.

mismused, and definitely not at all amused, or entertained by their idea of a video.
OK, so what is the BIG deal here? A 16 year old disabled girl is sexually assulted. And yes the authorities are investigating.

What about the dozens upon dozens of 14-15 year old girls, WHO are able-bodied
and are sexually assulted everyday as well. And yet there are NO authorities investigating these crimes.

So I ask you again: WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?

I am O under CharleyH's name with her permission.

This tragedy does not in any way detract from the tragedy of every sexual assault. It should not and it does not.

As for what the big deal is, this is an assault witnessed by many, recorded by one, and an attempt by school administrators who are entrusted with the safety of our children to sweep it under the rug, more than that, an attempt by them to keep the authorities from being contacted at all. There are so many guilty parties that it simply makes the blood boil and the heart break.

If someone stepped out of the room and ATTEMPTED to summon help, they would most likely be next (girl) or get the crap kicked out of them (boy). Where could they expect to get help? The police? From what has been said in this thread, there was a cop in the school already. The administration? The principal may well have arranged the assault. The other students? If the police don't care and the administration doesn't care, the students can't care.

And that makes it alright?
