Has anyone ever had this happen before?

I'm sick as hell right now. Whenever I cough, my head hurts really bad, and I have white spots in my throat, and every part of me aches. I feel so cold and my skin is so tender that my boyfriend rubbed my back thru my t-shirt and it felt raw.

I've had all of that before...

But the new part is I feel almost high. Whenever I stand up my head starts swimming and I get dizzy and disoriented. When I walked back to my room I was afraid I would be stopped by the Campus Security because I look drunk. It feels almost good until I cough and my head throbs again.

Has anyone had that before? The dizzy high/drunk feeling? I'm going to the clinic as soon as it opens to try to get an appointment. Unless I have a 180 degree turn in my condition by nine AM.

Yeah, that often comes with a fever. See a doctor.

One thing the Wiki article doesn't mention: in rare cases, strep throat can turn into a kidney infection and cause serious problems, so even if you're the "tough it out" kind this is one time where it's better to knock it on the head with antibiotics.

Don't know situation, but

the advice to see a doctor ASAP is sound. With my wife's compromised immune system, she did develop a kidney infection from a simple case of strep. Our nephew brought into my mother in-law's home during a family meal one Sunday.
You shouldn't ignore your bodies signals to prove how "tough" you are. Feeling drunk or high with other physical ailments is a warning something serious is going on.

Clinic opens in twenty minutes, but I have to go to a lab first. Then I'll go right there.

I posted that at around 2 in the morning, so no clinics were open. That's the only reason I didn't go.

I'm sure you know how to prioritize your schedule, but going to a lab (you mean a class, right? like a chem lab?) where you might get others sick -- or they might make you sicker -- does not strike me as the best idea.

At any rate, I wish you fast-acting antibiotics.

If I miss 2 labs I automatically fail the class.

I went to the clinic, and they don't have an opening until tomorrow at 10:45. Until then, isolation, fluids, lots of aspirin.

I would call the clinic a few times and see if you can talk to a nurse and explain how terrible you feel. Ask if they could squeeze you in at the end of the day or shortly after lunch. (It would be prudent on their part to get you on antibiotics ASAP so that you don't infect the whole campus.)

Strep can also lead to infections in the heart. If they can't see you, you should go to the emergency room.

PLEASE be sure to finish all of the antibiotics you're given, even if you start feeling better. Strep can rebound and be worse the 2nd time around, or take cover in your heart.

Not really. The aspirin solution would rip you throat tissue up. Chew an aspirin then tell me how your mouth feels afterword.

Most aspirin would make me throw up immediately if I tried that.

When I asked for aspirin and tea when I was pregnant, the "helpful" person put the aspirin IN the tea.

Yeah, even that orange flavored chewable stuff is murder.

That's why I use the 81mg coated stuff and just swallow it...just one, every day. For anything else I use Tylenol.

Are you feeling any nausea? Have you been fighting fever all four days? Do you have a rash of any kind on the skin?

Also, do you have tenderness in the area of spleen or liver? Do you feel overly exhausted? Are your glands swollen?

I've still been getting over my double hit cold. Alka Seltzer cold and cough work well. See if you can be perscribed something with codeine for the evenings. As for the junk in your lungs, boil some water in a bowl and sit over it with a towel over your head. Breathe in the steam and cough and spit the junk into the bowl.
