Should the Confederate Memorial Be Removed from Arlington National Cemetery?

I truly don't care. Memorials of people, of groups of people.....don't care. Events are what matter......the people of those events exist without statues.

If you want to memorialize the people at the site of an event......more power to ya.

No and they shouldn’t have been removed from anywhere else either. This political correctness to change history is asinine.
Political correctness doesn't change history. Memorials of people are irrelevant to history.

Hey if you want to memorialise people who tried to destroy the US, more power to you! So where did you plan on placing that statue of Hitler?

AH was not an American

Confederates were, often from the same town, business and family as their Union counterparts. And when it was over, they went back to those roles. Many of them were better citizens for it.

I don’t agree with all things that happen in history but all history is a teaching tool. To try and erase it by removing things you don’t agree with is wrong too.

Memorials aren't removing history. They're removing memorials to people.

Statues of Hitler don't exist.

He still is part of history.

I see it as similar to banning memorials to Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Joseph or any of the other war chiefs who fought against the Cavalry.

You don't understand history then. TheNative American tribes didn't secede from the US. War was declared on them. Get your history straight.

Get the Confederate monuments down. Especially at Arlington. If not for the Confederacy Arlington National Cemetery wouldn't exist. Is this lost on you who think the statues should stay?

Like Confederate flags, Confederate monuments are opportunities for traitors to America to self-identify by losing their shit when the monument is threatened, rather than a more measured response.

We can then make note of who those traitors are, and proceed accordingly.

Those monuments are now, in essence, bait.

I think they should stay.

🙂

The other side of that coin is, those monuments are also symbolic of why there are still so many of their supporters out there today. After World War II, the Germans took a long, hard look at themselves and took steps to prevent a repeat of what they had done. If we as a country had done that after the Civil War, there would still be some racism just as there is still anti-Semitism in Germany, but would it be so widespread? I doubt it.

judge rules removal to immediately recommence

“This case essentially attempts to place this Court at the center of a great debate between individuals extolling the virtues, romanticism and history of the Old South and equally passionate individuals, with government endorsement, who believe that art accentuating what they believe is a harsh depiction of a time when a certain race of people were enslaved and treated like property is not deserving of a memorial at a place of refuge, honor and national recognition,” the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia stated in the court ruling.
the judge ruled that those acting to keep the statue hadn't shown good reason as per their filing.

Put all Confederate statues and other artwork glorifying the traitors in museums of Confederate heroes. Where good people won't have to walk by them.

Just in case you missed ll74's post, it bears repeating.

I have a new question though, why is it "wrong"? What did they do to deserve being memorialised?

I think every generation should get to decide what it wants in its public square. I hate to see old things taken down, but I don't really get my panties in a twist over it.
