I was just curious if the "Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes" series is helpful to anyone, or just an annoyance. I figured I'd start a poll for some anonymous voting.

Shall I continue?

Shall I stop?

It's no skin off my nose either way. They are a bitch to type out, and the last two threads have generated very little conversation of interest, so I'm okay with stopping. I'll be happy to continue, too, if anyone is getting anything out of these.

For anyone who would like to check out the book themselves, it's called "The 38 Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes" by Jack M Bickham. USBN=0-89879-821-3

I've enjoyed them.

Perhaps, for expediency, you could post an index -- and folks could indicate which ones they're interested in seeing in more detail ???

I haven't commented on any of the threads, although I have read them all, and it's really nothing to me if you continue them or not, but suffice it to say it would appear from the excerpts posted that the author and I have different ideas of the art of writing.

And I even managed to avoid a snarky comment there.

Yes - busy trying to catch up with them. Imp's suggestion of an index would help me maintain the lazy style to which I have become accustomed.

I'm in favor of anything that keeps McKenna in easy flirting range :D

sorry. I'm a bit compulsive that way....

I have found them to be thought provoking although I haven't replied much...

When something makes me examine my work for a persoective I might not have, I'm better for it, even if I choose to ignore the results, at least I have considered them and their application to my work.

Please continue :rose:

You should absolutely keep it up. No matter what our level of writing is, we can all always use assistance! :rose:

Yes, of course threads on writing in an author's forum is an annoyance. I demand you replace them immediately with naked pictures and 12 year olds going "bubbies" and giggling! I mean how long are you going to keep dragging down the level of dis-dies-doos- talking and shit with your posting posts of postiness?

Keep em going, they're actually stimulating a lot of good stuff on various writing philosophies and gets us to think about how we approach a work.

But yes, an archive thread would be splendiferous.

While I don't always reply to the threads I do always read them and consider how they apply to my writing style(s). I don't always agree with them and don't always agree with the replies to the articles, but I do think them through fairly carefully as they pertain to my work.

So keep them coming. (cumming?) Or send me the book and I'll do them.

I don't always reply and, more often than not, don't agree, but they make me think. And thus are good.

The Earl

I enjoy the discussions they spark, and I would like you to continue, please. :)

So, the consensus seems to be keep posting the chapters, make an index and archive them. And one request to illustrate them with naked 12 year olds. I think you might have had less work if you'd just keep on posting them without requesting feedback.

Love them Kenna. I don't see some of them sometimes when down on the que, and post to them rarely, but love the ones I have read. You need to add: the most common cliche's in erotic writing to your plethora of information, though :D :rose:

That'd be fun.

McKenna,

Your series is far more interesting than the latest, "What color is your toothbrush?" thread. I'm sure the vast majority of viewers agree, in spite of the negative reactions to a few of the alleged mistakes. I thought it clear in those cases that all venom was directed toward Mr. Bickham. I'd understand if you quit- it's a lot of work, but I don't understand how you could imagine your further contributions would be an annoyance. Far from it.

Regardless of your decision, I appreciate you going to the trouble to share what you have thusfar.

Thanks Bunches,
Penny,

LOL - that's the post of the day in my books, Penny! LOL

Oh now this is interesting....

So far, those that have voted against continuing have neglected to post their reasons why in this thread. What a bunch of pussies. (Of which there are currently 5.)

As it is, the vast majority would like the series to continue. I'll give the poll 24 hours before making a final decision.

I do like the index idea; let you guys choose which chapters you'd like to hear and which would be the most beneficial.

Your use of pussy, which I use quite often in my stories as something delectably good, or tasty, is used by you to describe a rather genderized slap in the face. Are you sure they are pussies and not assholes? :|

Hmmm... that may require a full physical examination, one which I will heartily decline to make.

However if you'd like to volunteer... ;)

For the record, I consider anyone male or female to be a "pussy" when he/she is too weak to stand up for his/her own opinion, beliefs, moral code, what have you.

Why isn't it a cock? Pussy specifically points to female anatomy. :D Is your pussy a weak thing? ;)

Point taken.

Perhaps I should go for something more gender-neutral? (Though I'm sure it's premise was in "pussy".) Wuss!

Hmm, I need to brush up on my insults, it would seem. I wonder if they offer a Trolling 101 class here at Lit?

Unfortunately, or fortunately ... I did an art show on genderized words. This was a good time to use my knowledge. :D
