It's a problem in many organizations in every state and military. Those reports contain status of equipment and resources ( non-mission capable status, backlog of scheduled maintenance of equipment, funding shortages, man hour shortages, parts shortages and shortages of personnel). Those reports usual include recommendations what's needed to remedy deadline status of equipment.

Again - they aren't begging. They are putting in their request for budget....just like every other department.

We learned that lesson from the Israelis that the linchpin for mission success depends on an effective and pro active maintenance program.

I would describe it as pleading to not cut the budget after it was already cut in December. From what I read it affected air assets especially the operational side ( training and FAA certification). No doubt this fire was a perfect storm, perhaps no amount of equipment would have controlled this fire.

In a preliminary budget request for 2025/26, signed by Fire Chief Kristin Rowley, made on October 29, the LAFD asked for $96,535,000 to fund a 'fleet replacement plan'.

The revelations come amid growing anger at the city's Democratic leadership, particularly mayor Karen Bass, for its alleged focus on diversity and inclusion over emergency preparedness.

The firefighting force said in its request to the city: 'Many vehicles have surpasses their expected service life, leading to increased maintenance costs, reduces parts availability and potential downtime.'

And in its formal proposal to the city in November, it requested $24,063,000 for 'new fleet/apparatus purchases'.

In the preliminary budget request, the LAFD also asked for more than $1.9million to restore 16 maintenance positions 'deleted' in last year's budget.

It said in its request: 'The positions support fleet maintenance, equipment engineering, purchasing and warehouse management and distribution.'

Publicly, the fire chief has made public statements regarding the budget. I'm not disputing that.

What I am disputing is using this report to describe them as "begging". It simply isn't supporting evidence of the term. It's shitty writing. That's all I said and you seem to believe I said something else.

You seem to believe I'm centering my postings on the word "begging" but the report exposes critical budgetary mistakes made. My point is that city, state and federal budget councils often cripple their maintenance programs by diverting critically needed funding to ideological causes over operational readiness.
