Should I make my new story a series?

Hi, fellow Literoticans.....

I just submitted my newest story, JEANETTE: SLAVE TO PASSION,
and I have ideas of continuing it as a series. Before I do, though,
I want to make sure there's enough interest to warrant it. I have
ideas for several more chapters, and even a couple of chapters
already written out. The story isn't posted yet, but with the new
speedy turnaround time on getting stories posted (applause for
Laurel and Manu!) it shouldn't be long before it is.
Anyway, let me know if I should send poor Jeanette deeper and
deeper into the abyss caused by her own slavish obsession with
sex.....or just let her survive her first encounter and be done with
it. Thanks. Take care, all........Mike.

Doing a Series at Lit

I have a series already begun here called "Interruptus", chapters 1 through 4 so far and with plans for 5, 6 and possibly 7.

I liked the characters well enough to keep visiting them and inventing new scenarios for them, but...

I have received a lot of advice against series here. In fact, if I had it to do all over again, I would do the series differently.

My episodes (as I prefer to call them) have been listed and submitted here as:

Interruptus - Two friends inspire each other to new heights

Interruptus2 - The girls take 'turns' as the DVD plays on

Interruptus3 - The girls reach new heights in their relationship

Interruptus4 - The girls go to Ensenada, Mexico for shopping and more

If I had it all to do again, I would probably give each story a seperate title, like this:

First Time Lesbian: Interruptus1 - My best friend Annette and I watch a DVD

Now It's My Turn: Interruptus2 - Debbie returns the favor to the svelte Annette

Booming Bisexual Bonanza: Interruptus3 - The next morning brings surprise after surprise

Lesbian Road Trip: Interruptus4 - Mexico is a fine place for shopping and...

In this way, most readers would be less intimidated to read subsequent chapters. Sure the characters are introduced in the first episode, but the succeeding ones stand on their own as stories.

I'm pretty committed to continuing the next chapters in this fashion or possibly including the "Interruptus5, 6, etc." as a subtitle only just above the text. Again, just to keep from putting off potential readers. I think you will find from most series writers that subsequent chapters, episodes are visited less and less by the readership. Certainly, they are voted on less and less.

I think it's also a good idea to include a little prompt at the end of each episode to encourage the reader to vote their conscience. Something like:

Now that you've finished reading, please vote.

My thoughts. Hope they help.

Should I make my new story a series

Just to put my own views, virginal though they are: I have posted many stories and am still endeavouring to analyse the voting patterns. My advice is to post as a series, preferably on successive days. If you don't write garbage, I believe that intelligent readers will follow the series as long as it is kept interesting. Some simply forget to vote and others just hit the vote button without changing the middle score first. I have just posted a number of serialized stories called Addicted to Attention and it will be interesting to see how the votes stack up and on which days they appear to be read the most. The best advice is just to write for your own amusement and not worry about the votes at all. If you are a really bad writer, perhaps Laurel will tactfully suggest you refrain from contributing any further stories. So far so good with me! It's all good experience to develop your writing skills. Best of luck. Barbara.

Judo...thanks. All valid considerations. I never considered
the title alterations you mentioned, but I think it's a really good
idea. I just might put that into operation on my next Jeanette
chapter. I'm also committed to my Jeanette and Jeff characters
and want to continue their (s)exploits, and your title idea sounds
like the way to go. I think giving different titles, but also adding
the ongoing title as part of it, will bring in new readers as well
as remind the "faithful" that this is another segment of a story
they've already read, with characters and ideas that they more
than likely enjoy and want to continue enjoying....at least that
would be the ideal situation, no? LOL. Thanks, bud...appreciate the input.

Barbara...thanks also. I've also found the voting habits of
readers to be boggling. My story, MYTHS AND LEGENDS had an
equal number of votes throughout it's three part run. LOVE
AMONG THE HEADSTONES had only a few votes on the first two
chapters, but the votes tripled on the third and final chapter,
probably because of the supernatural aspect of the conclusion.
IT NEVER RAINS BUT IT POURS had 22 votes on the first chapter,
but only 5 on the second and concluding chapter. And now,
my JEANETTE story has had the most votes I've ever gotten, and
I'd like to keep that going. But, like yourself, I can't figure out
the voting patterns.....lol. Sigh....well, after all, who really cares,
eh? I'm just having fun writing and the occasional word of praise
makes it all worthwhile. And, also like yourself....Laurel hasn't
asked me to stop submitting stories....yet....lol.

Thanks again to both of you. Take care and keep writing!
The world can never have too much smut.....er....I mean, erotica.
LOL.
