Should I continue writing this or move on to a new story?

If you want to write but are just unsure if you want to continue that one Id recommend just trying different story. Then if you still think about the first one you can write a second chapter. The rating given is more than good enough to warrant a sequel.

I think this is one of those things that nobody else can really answer for you, unfortunately. I'm of the mind you should write what you want to write, and if that means you do the next chapter (which it seems like it's done well, so I can understand why you'd want to) then do that, but if you have some other idea that's bubbling up and asking you to write it and you like it, then go ahead and do that.

If you aren't sure, there's a clarifying exercise where you assign story ideas to a dice (story 1 = 1, story 2 = 2, story 3 = 3, etc), then roll it. When the story pops up, you'll either feel like you're okay with it, or (and this is what usually happens to me), you think, "Maybe I should re-roll," in which case, you don't really find yourself all that drawn to that story and you take it out of play. Keep doing that until you land on something that you feel like you're okay with writing. It seems dumb, why can't you just know what you want? I dunno, man, brains are weird things that don't always tell us what they're thinking, sometimes you just gotta force the issue.

If you weren't inspired enough to finish it then, and don't have ideas now, I think, there's your answer. I'd say, write something new.

Did you have ideas back when you published it as "Chapter 1?"

What I've learned here on Lit is that you can write more than one story at the same time. There's nobody to tell you that you can't. If you want to continue your story, go ahead! If you want to try something new, go ahead! If you want to switch between the two, or if you get fed up writing either or both but another idea seems interesting - you guessed it: go ahead!

If it was a long time ago, anyone who really liked your chapter 1 has long since given up on hoping for chapter 2. So you don't have to worry about continuing it for other people's sake. If you want to, for your own sake, do so.

If you start chapter 1 of something, you don't have to concentrate on that alone. Many people do, of course, but you can write other stories before returning to chapter 2. People who like your work - who read one story and like it - will look at your others. Some readers will begin at your chapter 1, others will begin at a standalone story. If they like it and look back at older stories, it doesn't really matter how old they are. So just write whatever you want. Someday you might want to continue that old series.

When I like an author, starting from a new story, I look at their past works: do I want to read their very first? Do I want to read a big series? It depends. But I know, from one good story, that all the others will probably be worth trying. So just write a few good stories - continuations or not. People will taste here and there.
