Should authors hold each other up, or tear them down?

I thought Arcane was a vampire! ;)
No, Arcane is sorcerer who wanted to live forever, then died, went to hell and rose through the ranks. This all courtesy of Swamp Thing comics. His daughter Abigail was ST's lover....and her character and King Diamonds album by the same time were the influences behind my choosing that name for the lead in my horror series.

Now, all I need to do is tie Kevin Bacon into this....

Is all but copy paste from a text book. Some people think they're more well read than others, because many don't need to try to thrill us with their acumen(thank you Doctor Lechter) but he leaves out his part as the occasional visitor these days who somehow knows the dichotomy of every relationship here including many things behind the scenes and predate him.

There are old feuds and there has been several very ugly incidents here during and before my time, and enough that whoever here is cynical or looks/expects repeat performances, can't be blamed for it. Much of this is on the site which in every instance of a serious situation, sat on the sidelines with popcorn and refused to do anything about it, and in more than one case may have been egging it on. (Tinfoil? Sadly no, two women were driven from this site, both of whom the site wanted gone, and by someone who more than a few here think may be an alt of the site) I could go all day about the minions who did their work on the GB.

But here's a little pyschology of base human nature. Those who call bullshit are seen by those who abide bullshit because they are either meek, or simply suck ups who never want to rock the boat, as always being "conspiracists' or trolls. Considering people here are writers, not just writers but of material many frown upon, that means they're creatives and creatives tend to be more along the line of free thinkers.

However, there are far more conformists and yes men and toadies here than there are those who think for themselves, or maybe they see it, but they'd rather keep their head down than rock the boat because their precious scores are more important than calling something out or sticking up for something.

There's various versions of the expression when they hate you its because....

I'll take being hated on many topics here because more often than not its because there's truth in the point.

Whether it's copy and paste or his own words, it's all true. I've seen every instance of what he described in real life. Got bit in the ass more than once by some of the conditions and people he described.

Here on the net, hidden behind an electronic curtain of invisibility, many take it as license to be what they are afraid to be in real life. I try very hard to be the same person here as I would if you met me in real life. I live by a few rules. As funky as it sounds a line from "Road House" has always stuck with me, "Be nice, until it's time not to be nice." I can see no reason what so ever to be abrasive, to be a total and utter asshole, until there is no other alternative. Then you will never meet a bigger asshole; an appropriate response at the appropriate time.

As far as calling out bullshit, I follow the same rule. Do it politely, do it with intelligence and aplomb, until that alternative is exhausted. Anger people and they close their mind, shut me off. I can't convince someone I have a valid point if I do that to them. Most confrontations here on the net, most disagreements aren't won by a cascade of angry abrasive words. Even if I don't win over the one I argue with, I may win over the ones reading my post. Sometimes the line between winning and loosing isn't short and straight, it's long and convoluted.

As far as hating, I've never experienced that emotion. Even when I was shooting at those that were shooting at me, I didn't hate them. All I wanted was to stay alive and if it took killing the other guy, so be it. I've just never been able to understand that particular emotion.

I have friends that are what I would call less brave than others. And I also have friends who are more "damn the torpedoes, I'll spit in their eye!". I know their weaknesses and strength's and accept them for who they are, and expect they will do the same for me, accept me with the weaknesses I have.

"Conformists" "yes men" "toadies" maybe there are those here like that, but for me it isn't something to get spun up about. I learned a very long time ago, if I can't do something to change a thing then I am not going to spend time worrying about it or spend time jousting at windmills. In an instance like that I say my piece and move on.

Additionally, I was taught to pick my fights. Some things here just aren't worth arguing about. There are other things where no matter what is said, it falls on deaf ears. I was also taught not to argue with a mule, 'cause they aren't going to pay a damned bit of mind no way. It's a waste of time and breath.

As a lay student of the human condition I'll leave you with a line from a movie, "Avatar". Make of it what you will,

"I see you."

Keeping it brief, I was molded into being a bully's bully. I see someone attacking some one be it real life, or on the net where everyone is a bad ass, or thinks they are, my mentality becomes "well, hey, if feel the need to fight, its right here" and I have found the mentality of those around is that I'm the asshole for not putting up with crap.

Takers take until they're taken. The expression "They're not worth it" was coined by those not worth it. They bank on people being better than them and continue to act like trash until someone finally decides to take out the trash. For better or worse I'm the person here I am everywhere else. If you need something and I can give it to you, its yours because I came up with nothing and now have a good life and I pay things forward. Treat me like crap, the cheek I'll turn will be the other person's not mine, and odds are I'm doing other people a favor down the line because we all know the kid at school bullies until he meets his match and this follows us into adulthood.

I'd like to say I don't hate, but hate and rage are part of my make up and I've learned to control it when needed, and let it out when needed. Everyone in this country is full of anger these days and I look around and think "Posers" like hardcore drinkers do to to all the party goers on new years.

Long story short, I don't let things go.

As for Cyrano, I never said he was wrong, I just think he's pretentious and has more than an air of better than, and likes to test the wind to see what side of the fence he's on, which is a way too common trait these days. As I said to Simon on the topic of why some comments are so angry, my point is look around, everyone is angry and they unleash it where they can and any type of social media or a comments section let's them do it.

Unlike Cyrano and others here, I don't think I'm Yoda, but I know people, and people for the most part suck. I suck too sometimes, but few are that self aware.
