perhaps cruise season is ending, and vacation/beach story season is underway, but does anyone else find there is something about stories about totally disposable romances....the literal " shipboard romance"?

Haven't seen many set on board in a while. The setting is ideal for any fantasy/genre.

Anyone got ideas? I for one love to read more of this sort!

i love the good ol' captain fantasy

the simple vanila M/F version?

as I typed that, I thought " which....?". There are many twists imaginable.

Quick stream of off the top of my head ideas, may lead to some other concepts...

Ships are like small communities, lots of potential for gossip , rumour and intrigue, it's difficult to avoid seeing someone if you wanted to and by the same token there are many formalised meetings ie meal times, dancing and other entertainment, the passengers come and go but the staff/crew remain, a fling between two crew, or a passenger and crew member?

Folks dress up, they can be glamorous, they can be anyone they want to be for the time they are aboard, an assumed persona, or someone acting opposite to the way in which they normally would?

Ist class/2nd class tickets, a mix up,as a result of ending up in 1st class room she's treated differently, acts differently a bit more in command of her life, realises how attractive that makes her to both men and women. Potential for blackmail/sexual favours when someone finds out.

All aboard!

Cheers 'rain ;)

There are lots of possibilities here. I am reminded, for the first time in years, of an incident where I met and "interacted" with a fellow passenger on a 12 hour ferry crossing. We didn't exchange anything but bodily fluids, not even names!

Not really.

I was in the bar on a Dover-Ostend ferry (8 hours or so) travelling alone, got talking to some other passengers (a largish mixed group) and when a modicum of alcohol had been ingested one of the party decided the time had come to donate it to the sea. I helped him to the rail and hung on to him as he threw up. On the other side of him was this woman who clearly knew him. He staggered back into the bar and she said, "Thank you," and kissed me. I groped and so did she. Behind a lifeboat, skirts up, trousers down, grunt, tidy appeareance a little and back into the bar, where she joined her friends and I didn't want to look pushy.

add a few hundred words, its a hit.

I agree with sirhugs snooper, I've been wanting to know more since you posted the "teaser". I love the heat of an opportunity taken advantage of! I'd like to read this story.

I was talking about this thread with a friend recently who mentioned something that may or may not be an interesting addition to a shipboard story.

As a twenty year old she took a cruise with a bunch of girlfriends, had lots of fun and participated in one of those corny and by the sounds of it risque shipboard revues.

Apparently her troupe's performance was very well received. The next day she was the centre of attention wherever she went around the ship. I didn't get the details on the exact nature of the act, but turns out she was the only redhead amongst 1500 passengers. She has the most beautiful fiery red hair and stands out like a beacon. No hiding on a ship is there?

Thanks

... for the interest. If either of you, or anyone else for that matter, wants to write it, go ahead. I don't see it as more than a minor episode in a long life, so it doesn't strike me as interesting.
