"But I have to disagree with you, sir, when you say that I'm selfish because feeding my kids — is not selfish. I have hair stylists that are going hungry because they'd rather feed their kids. So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision but I am not going to shut the salon."
Shelley Luther

If it saves one life

~~~ versus ~~~
Do it for the children
;)
You choose...
Jean Valjean : I stole a loaf of bread. My sisters child was close to death, and we were starving...
Javert : And you will starve again unless you learn the meaning of the law!
Jean Valjean : I've learnt the meaning of those nineteen years; a slave of the law.
:cool:
No, the fight has been made to declare the clinics as "essential."
So, you see, we have a lot of people arguing for law over the children that survived...
If she stands her ground, and has the legal assistance she needs, she should win on appeal.
The "law" she supposedly violated has no legal support for a criminal punishment. they can pull her business license, but there's no basis in the law to put her in jail because the Governor cannot just "declare" something to be illegal even under his emergency powers.
To do that requires an act of the legislature.
She should have claimed protected status from the court
as a humble undocumented citizen prevented from voting.
:cool:
Did you notice, that while she was making her statement, the Judge didn’t even look at her?
He knows that he is outside of the court of public opinion...
;)
I hope he's in an elected and not an appointed position.
The government, regardless of which branch, never listens to the peasants until they are forced to do so.
It would seem that if government takes away a legal form of income then the government should be obligated to compensate for that loss.
Murderers and rapists get released.
Hair salon owners get jailed.
Yaay!
Yeah, I know, bb already made this point in one of his threads with one of his alts.
Or if the gov’t requires you to wear a mask, they supply them.
That’s what we do in the private business sector. All required PPE is supplied. Free.
No one pays attention to the beebs...,
he had his 15 minutes, a poor player strutting on the stage, full of, well, **it...
Exactly. And that sad fact was on full display.
The most ridiculous part is that the judge will defend his decision with some version of "but she is required to inform the court that the law is unconstitutional or else the court has no notice of that".
Every judge has the power and discretion to dismiss on it's own motion, cases which are a waste of judicial resources or where dismissal is in the interest of justice. One could argue that failure to do so is a sign of judicial incompetence or bias. One can also opine that those judges who routinely don't do so, even in obvious cases such as this one, are merely rubber stamps for the State masquerading as a separate branch of the government.
Being incarcerated and fined $500/day is excessive punishment for the "offense".
Hell, if the posters here are any judge of the judge,
in his mind, he was sticking it to the right-wing and
President Donald J. Trump!!!
Yes. We are evil.
I used to stock about 10 to 12 different brands and styles of safety glasses, so our guys could have the kid they liked the best.Used to stock half a dozen different brands of respirators, for both fit, and their personal preference.
Same with boots....and other PPE we required.
Evil.
I couldn't agree more!!! The government would have to comply with OSHA and NIOSH standards. I can't get N-95s so let the gov give them to me if they want me to comply.
