Your august body lies about me sprawled
like an oiled-up manatee. I grow appalled
at girth’s command of taper. How your flanks
have relegated bone to fattened ranks.

When your flesh manhandles fabric, cheek-to-cheek,
my inner voice wants to boycott outward speech.
As a spouse I abstain, preferring solitude and peace.

Years ago you gushed, "Your Speedos barely reach!"
But now reticence rules. I have nary a romantic notion.
I'll read my book; you drift upon a cellulitic ocean.

I kid the ladies.

clever writing, very visual, very bitter. deftly handled form, but leaves the reader fairly unsympathetic to both narrator and the subject of their observations . . . an ugly poem that depicts truth for some people.
