The first thing that I thought of was that a girl might get pissed if you told her that she looked like his mother. At the very least, think that he is some weird jerk. And what would the mother think?

I'm wondering what kind of reaction would the reader have

More Oedipus, I think. This is the son who chooses a girl who looks like his mother.

At this point in the story, the son has already been sleeping with his mother. The mother is still keeping her husband satisfied and maintaining her house. The son invites his girlfriend for diner at his mother insistance. This is the mother's first look at the girlfriend.

The girlfriend knows that the son thinks she looks like his mother.

What do you believe the conversation would be like between the girlfriend and the mother.
