I would like to shave/trim my pubic hair. I have never done so before. anyone got any ideas or suggestions. I am thinking about just trimming with my electric razor.

There are also a bunch of shaving advice threads here.

Before you take the plunge, you might want to trim the hair to a reasonable length (i.e. one that's long enough to not be irritate your partner, if you have one) with clippers. See how you like it, then if you want it gone, trim it down as short as possible before you attempt shaving.

Shaving requires upkeep. If you go this route and don't want it to itch like crazy as the hair grows back, be prepared to shave daily or every other day for weeks to months. The exact amount of time depends on the person, but eventually your skin should get desensitized to regrowth.

If you want to go bare and don't want the more intense upkeep, consider waxing.

I've used the shaver attachment for my personal grooming trimmer.

At least Seiko makes an electric shaver specifically for pubic hair.

Most of us have used electric clippers to trim down the hair before shaving or waxing, or just to clean it up.

As long as the hair is as short as possible first so the hair doesn't catch, I don't see the problem with using an electric razor. It's not going to give a shave as close as a traditional razor, but for a quick job where results don't count as much, it shouldn't be a problem.

Master has used clippers on his pubic hair but it's risky and causes irritation. These days he just trims with a pair of scissors and it's more than adequate for aesthetic/ergonomic considerations as far as I'm concerned. The only issue I have with a guy who lets his pubic hair grow naturally is the hairs I get up my nose during fellatio, which make me sneeze in an unsexy fashion. That's about all I'm concerned with when it comes to discussions about trimming/clipping.

Shaving

What I try to do is almost like a facial, I get a warm towel and wrap it or place it on the area 2 to 3 times. I then place shaving cream underside first then upper area, I shave about every 2 to 3 days. I shave upper area first then carefully lower, check for any areas that I missed and again using the warm towel remove any left over shaving cream.

I use an electric trimmer and just keep it set to the longest setting. That keeps everything in reasonable length. It looks neat but I don't have that terrible pain from regrowth.

Also I prefer a partner with a little bit of hair, so it isn't a double standard.

I wonder what would cause you to have "terrible pain" upon regrowth.

I've never heard of anyone experiencing pain during regrowth. Itching, yes, but actual--terrible--pain? Nope. Not unless there's another problem, like severe razor burn or ingrown hairs (both of which can usually be avoided by knowing oneself and using a good shaving technique).

I finally gave up on shaving this winter after messing around with it for years. Waxing is like a thousand times better with the right wax and technique! it's painful the first two or three times, but that pain is so temporary that I'd still choose to wax even if it didn't get better each time. For me, the benefits FAR outweigh the hassle and quick pain every 4-6 weeks. Now I just wish I hadn't screwed around with shaving all those years; if I had gone the waxing route in the first place, I'd hardly have any hair to remove now!

I find the recurring discussion of shaving rather interesting, as it appears some people find it a complex or difficult thing. I'm not claiming any special skill (ROFL), but it seemed pretty simple to me. I use a NOT NEW razor, very much a light touch !!, with shaving cream or even soft soap while in the shower. Sure you have to be careful, but I'm able to shave everything from just below my belly button in front to about five inches down all around the legs, in-between, and my back. Every once in a while I shave lightly over my chest. Maybe use some cream rinse after it, but it feels smooth and dry, and not irritated at all. I've gotten to like it just from a hygiene point-of-view. But I was very lightly haired anyway. I don't know how applicable my comments are to men who have body hair like a wire brush...

Try this

Hi- I've been shaving for years(male) and I prefer women at least trimmed, so I've tried lots of differnet things with varing result. I recently came upon a combination that seems to work very well, at least for me.

Several years ago I read about and tried "MagicShave" and found it worked very well, with greatly reduced bumps/rash, but the risk of the occasional chemical burn trying to get a really smooth effect proved its downfall for me. So I went back to a razor for the dangly bits, and just a trim above. I do prefer a bit of hair more than completely bald, but I missed the feeling of a partially smooth pubis, so I continued to try different things here and there.

Then purely out of curiousity I tried combining MagicShave with a razor, and I'm having a great result. Smooth, with no rash or bumps, and it lasts for almost a week between. The trick is to not leave the magicshave on for more than a minute or two, and then rinse it off in the shower; and then use a razor to lightly go over the same area. I use a dab of olive oil after the shower and I'm loving it.
