Shared values

When politicians talk we often hear them speak of "shared values." Many times I don't share these values when Nancy Pelosi is talking, because I know what she says and what she means are two different things.
Then there are board members who refer to dums and repugs as if there is no point of agreement on any issue.
But there have to be at least some points? Maybe at least one?

Let's try this test. Liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican, throw out one subject where you believe almost everyone should be on the same side of the issue. I've got several, but I'll start with this one:

I believe in secure borders, in knowing who is coming and going, how long they are staying and where they are staying.

Do you agree? Of course you do … right?
What's your shared value?

No, secure boarders are stupid, for a variety of reasons that I outlined at length several times, mostly economic, also humanitarian and ethical. They don't pull that shit in Europe and the fearmongering bullshit about drugs is fearmongering bullshit; I live in the place hardest hit by drugs, the opiod epidemic capital of the United States. That shit is homegrown. There is no reason for this boarder bullshit. It is a nonissue diversion tactic.

Here, however, are things that we should all be able to agree on

The following things are intrinsically bad and we should have no part in them:

1: Concentration Camps
2: Actual Nazis/Fascism
3: Warmongering, torturous dictators like that Kim Jong-un
4: Serial Rapists

The following things are good, and if they have been criminalized, your society has failed

1: Giving water to children dying of thirst
2: Donating supplies to children who are suffering


I think those are things that any human person, regardless of political affiliation, ought to be able to agree on.

Republicans straight up hate America, they wear slogans implying that it's not great, but can be made great by somehow going back in time.

Democrats acknowledge the failings and look to places that are doing better and go, "Hey y'all we could do that. Sweeden did schoolin real good and we're over here lookin like we went to the Derek Zoolander School for Kids Who Can't Read Good and Also Want to Learn How to do Other Stuff Good Too'."

I mean, you could say, "both are self-centered and like politicians who play into that" and that would be true, like for patriotism. Everyone likes being told they're great, despite their numerous flaws.

We can probably agree on this: It could be worse.

You can't really phrase it like, "America is the greatest" you kinda have to phrase it like, "It could be worse".
