I just read an excerpt from a letter to the editor at my fathers local paper. It seems someone there was upset because during the Fourth of July Celebarations in this largish New England town they were much too Patriotic.
"What about those of us who have moved to this country? You do not mention us at all during this celebration. Are you telling us that our coming here is not worth mentioning? First you ask us to learn your language, now you show us how low we are in your eyes by clelbrating this day of Independance. What about us? We have no national holidays here. If we want to clebrate our holidays we must ask for a day off. This is not fair to us.
All we hear during this time is music celebrating your country and the waving of American Flags. You should also celebrate our national holidays."
This letter was signed Jose Carrera.
The part that had me shaking my head was I used to work with this guy. His Work Visa ran out the year I moved south.
