I need help for a story I am working on... So just a little survey, particularly to straight women, though anyone else can participate too... What accent do you think is sexy? Especially, what accents of native English speakers?

American English, or English English? Not being flippant, but there are a great whopping lot of dialects in each group.

Personally, from a non-female, I think an Irish accent is wonderful. But it might have something to do with an Irish girl I used to know... ;)

I also love the american southern twang. Not the West Verginia type hillbilly, but a deep south Georgia drawl.

I'm partial, but I like Louisiana, Cajun-French, Texans (East Texas), or just a southern accent in general.

Personally, I favour the Arizona accent.....but I may be a tad biaised. ;)

could be either one, as the story is placed in a place that would make sense for either one. to give some more info, right now i have written it is a scot (of course i know there are quite a lot of differences in accent within scotland too, but i am not that good at differentiating them) because i somehow quite like that accent... but i wanted some other ideas - of course it is my story and thus i shouldn't care too much what others think, but kind of to avoid that when i mention the accent being sexy, that everyone who reads that just gets confused...

I have an American friend that tells me my Aussie accent is to die for......yet I am a big fan of the Richard Burton/Sean Connery sound and I have a recording of Orson Welles just before he died.........all three have voices that are just so melliflous (sp?)

Its really quite a personal thing...... ;)

Aussie works for me too.

Being a sweet southern thang!

I have to say I like a woman with a Southern American accent, but not particularly men.

Australian and Native American are my favorite manly accents.

Little heard accents from the coast of North Carolina (ocracoke and hatteras), with hoi toid (high tide), and English influences are a special turn on for me. bringing me back to a more Victorian Age of speaking.

Be careful trying to give characters accents in a story. If not done correctly it can make the story fery diffacult to read. Trust me, I've tried and failed at this and have the feedback to prove it. I tried to actually type out the accent. Ugly, very ugly.

It seems to work best to describe the characters accent and let the readers impression of the accent fill in the actual pronounciations of the words.

Native Americans have a specific accent? I didn't know that... Is that only in certain regions though? My host mom was native american, and I never had the impression she spoke different to other people around...

"I can't really tell one Scottish accent apart from another. I just know that his voice drove me wild, with its burring "R"s, and whatever it is that made him sound like he could eat me alive while laughing about it. Oh god, and I sure wanted him to!"

English
Scottish
Australian
Italian
French
Irish

oh hell, I'm a whore for an accent, I admit it :cathappy:

Yes, I am not planning on actually typing out the accent (each of the characters only says about three sentences anyway, if that much), but I needed something to make the two guys wake the girl's interest, and had decided one should have really pretty eyes, and the other one a cute accent (as this is about a more or less superficial one night stand I didn't want to give them too much of a complex character, and thus wanted to opt for one thing that would make them attractive to her).
