Sexual Repression - a Global Perspective

I don't know if this is true, but does America and do Americans perpetuate the idea that sex is some evil, dirty act moreso than in Europe.

Yes. Absolutely, without a doubt, yes.

It seems to be a preoccupation among American politicians to preach about "Family Values" and then assert that "family values" do not include sex and sexuality. I'm not sure I would go so far as to blame the general American need to make sex dirty entirely on the politicians or the established religious right, but I think there is some merit to making the point.

This is going to veer a bit off topic (sorry Lav) but I hate it when politicians stand up and tell me they support "Family Values." What the fuck? You some rich old fuck from Arizona support my family values? Somehow I highly doubt that! Isn't that kind of like getting up and saying he wants to legislate morals? Yeah you know what I don't want Congress legislating my moral structure thanks.

While I was abroad, I think it shocked the hell out of European men how readily I was to perform oral sex. There is that rumor that is perpetuated about American women and their willingness to do this. In Europe, it isn't quite as easy to find as in America. Of course this might just be a myth.

I think you have a valid point there Lav. When I've spoken with some of my friends from across the pond; they have stated much the same thing. They were amazed at the fact American women are so willing to preform oral and actually enjoy giving head! Makes my chest swell with pride that my sisters and I are so well admired!

Beyond simply differences between the specific sexual acts that occur, I think there is more sexual repression in America. I mean in Europe nudity is more widely accepted. You see people nude everywhere, with their children. It is as accepted as drinking wine under the age. There is also much more nudity on public television. These things are highly condemned in American society. Do you think this has any direct correlation to the sexual repression in society?

I don't know if this is true, but does America and do Americans perpetuate the idea that sex is some evil, dirty act moreso than in Europe.

I think the answer lies in what organized religon has done to our society. For several hundred years, we have been taught by the church (Catholic and Protestant) that sex was a "dirty" thing and only used for procreation. BOLLOCKS!! Thankfully, I grew up in a family that didn't believe these lies and I have always enjoyed the different aspects of sex.
I also think that we are seeing somewhat of a sexual revolution here in the States. Old,out dated ideas are being tossed and people are coming to realize the sex between two consenting adults is something to be embraced and enjoyed.
I'm happy that I am a part of this wonderful time and maybe because of my attitude pretaining sex, my child and grandkids will never know of the repression that has gripped this country for centuries. Nice legacy to pass on if you ask me!:p

for just simple tv ratings and even computer games violence is shunned more here but sex and swearing is ok

i hear the opposite is true in the US violence being ok for tv but not swearing or sex i dont know if this is true though

maybe it has something to do with your question :)
