Which was the sexiest decade of the last century?

Whoever voted for the 80's can't have grown up in it!!
(I put '30's)

The 30's, judging by film and literature.

born too late, Perdita

I've said the fifties... only cos my parents were adults of my age then and look back with fondness...

as for the 80's voter.. perhaps thats when they themselves felt most sexy?

It's a toss up between the 30's and yes, actually the 90's. For entirely different reasons.

That's a big FAT ditto from me, too, Liar. I think it's because I perceive the 30's as being sexy, and for me, personally, the 90's was pretty sexy. I also think, with the explosion of the internet in that decade, sex was more accessible (at least in a 2D form) than it ever was before. However, the 00's is turning out to be even more so, for me.

I voted for the 80'ies. OK, so the clothes were all in primary colors, and the hair styles were so big and spiky that you couldn't get closer than 50 cm from your loved one, but still...

Short skirts, classic rock n' roll, tights...

I'm with you girl, the 80's also gave us great music. It was my era and I miss my big hair and wild clothes. Androgeny at it's best.

A couple of days ago I saw a magazine article about naughty French postcards of the 1930's. It was about as X rated as you can get. Scat, lesbian 69, strap-ons, you name it. And all so damn tasteful too.

The main difference is that the women in the pictures were shorter and rounder faced, with nice, stocky little legs. And they smiled, whatever it is they were up to. The guys were short and skinny too -- no hulking ubermensch.

I forgot about the internet. That makes the 90's even more sexy. It is a new world, a new way for every regular Joe and Jane all over the planet to meet and live out their thing a million times more easily than before. And there is nothing as sexy as regular Joes and Janes living out their thing.

I was going to say that the 90's was sexy because it was the decade when passion became honest, rock finally meant something again, issues became sexy and Claire Forlani became legal.

and curvy women were classed as sexiest rather than stick thin of now... and all boobs were real! lol

I disagree about the 90's, at least for the reasons given here. The internet put sex in our faces, so to speak, and at our veritable fingertips. I've had my share and truly love it, but it's not as profoundly sexy or sensual as the environs of the postcards Joe mentioned, or the near-virtual sex one can see, feel and hear between the lines of so many great thirties' films.

Before Cybersex they had love-letters. And those "love letters" were not usually about love.

The Thirties: noir in lit. and film (as sexy as it gets); the "Henry and June" diaries; no subtext, just sex.

Yeah, the '70s was the decade I lost my virginity. Pre aids (but also pre Ecstacy  ). Not as uptight as the so-called swinging sixties. I was a very scary punk; my long term g/f was a disco diva. Disco was really sexy music. I hated it. But you had to dance to it, if you wanted a fuck on Saturday night.

I voted for the seventies because porn became legal then, and so did abortions in the USA and things were generally pretty liberal. AIDS appeared in the eighties which put kind of a damper on things.

I don't see much sexy about the thirties. Depression, rise of Facism, war, anti-sodomy laws, sexual repression of women, tough censorship, at least in the USA. Porno was available then, like it always has been, but it was illegal and of poorer quality than it is now. Even the very best of porn from the thirties is vastly inferior to anything that can be bought in any adult book store.

In the seventies, women wore mini-skirts and didn't try to look like toothpicks. Silicone was available but it was not as popular as it is now. Most laws forbidding sexual activities among consenting adults had already been repealed or were repealed then.

The internet came along in the nineties, of course, and that was a big plus, but Allie McBeal started then and AIDS was still a menace.

Ok, box -- I'll qualify: The thirties, pre Hayes in the U.S, pre Hitler in Europe -- so, I guess, 1930-1932...

Joe, I'm disappointed in your qualification. I was about to reply to Box that it's precisely because of the depression, facism, censorship, etc., that sex "came out" in the thirties the way it did. Now we have every avenue of finding so-called sex, but if that means AVs of Lewd's and Blacksnake's dicks, you can have it.

Perdita

I don't want their dicks. I told you, I want a clit, dammit..

That was pre-Hitler but we still had Facism in Italy and Japan was invading China. Pre-Hayes, okay, but censorship was still a lot tighter than it was in the seventies.

I'm sorry, box, but the following (British) English word rules out the 70's for ever..
