My wife's sex drive has declined to almost nothing. This is very frustrating for both of us. She is 50. It was never a problem years ago. Does anyone have any experience with presciption or non prescription drugs for this problem. Her doctor was no help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, believe it or not they prescribe testosterone to help a woman's sex drive. While testosterone is a male hormone, it is present in women and is largely responsible for the female sex drive. I know its available as a 1% testosterone skin cream. Some girl friends have used it for years and are very happy with the results. Its not unusual for a woman's sex drive to decrease after menopause. She needs to talk to her GYN about it and get a prescription.

Other factors such as prescription drugs may also be a factor. Anti-depressants in particular can be huge libido killers.

We've discussed this a few times on some other threads, and it's quite common, especially at this age. It's all about hormones. The good news is that they can and do prescribe hormone therapy for just this sort of problem. Go see her doctor and don't be embarassed about it; they see this all the time.

The good news for her is that there are also lots of reports that show that these hormonal changes also make women at this age have more frequent and intense orgasms. With each down comes an up, I guess. :)

Sorry, I totally missed the "her doctor was no help" line. I would say search out a doctor who specializes in menopausal and hormonal issues. Even if this is an issue caused by other drugs, they are affecting her hormone levels, which causes her sex drive changes.

I forgot to mention the doctor issue. A GP or even an internist is not who you want to talk to about this. That's why I mentioned going to a GYN. Even in this day and age, there are some docs that don't like to deal with sexuality issues.

My wife had a hysterectomy a few years back and her sex drive went down hill afterwards. 3 months ago she quit using the hormone patch and started using a breast pump. She pumps 2-3 times a day for about 20 mins. She did the research so I'm not sure exactly what it does. What I can say is that she wants sex almost all the time now and that her boobs have gotten bigger.

I have been taking estratest - a combo estragen/testoseron - since I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago. It's great, with minimal side effects. (More facial hair than I had before, though most of my friends not taking complain about that - I think it can be an aging issue too.) I'd say she needs a new dr. if he wasn't willing to search out an answer for her.
