Someone told me it's "All of a sudden."

This person insists it's a regional thing - I'm from Illinois - but I have no idea if this is true, since I can't really remember what people at home say.

I guess I'll go with a consensus.

Illinois resident for over thirty years, extensive reader, reading novels by first grade...no such thing as "all the sudden." Sorry.

ill sometimes say ... "of a sudden" without the all.
but never heard "all the sudden"

I think you did pick that up in Milwaukee, I don't remember you saying it when you lived here. You're probably not crazy, I'm sure I've heard other people say it before. I say 'all of a sudden' but there are a lot of other phrases I mangle like a total Illinois heehaw. My family kind of has their own rural dialect. I'm from a town named after an animal, I never had a chance.
