"A pretty creature, where did you come by it?" I asked the trader, as I tilted the head of the creature to one side, studying it. It was all but hairless, save for a mane of long dark hair that sprouted from its head, and a triangular patch of similar colour between its legs above its genitals, female it seemed.
"A backwater planet, I recently discovered. They have barely travelled further than their homeworlds lone moon" replied the trader, smiling as he clasped his hands together, "she is one of four I harvested... you like, Keeper?"
"It is sentient?" I asked.
"Barely, they use hardly any of there cerebral capacity - plenty of room for memory implantation" he said.
"I'll give you two cases of darsa oil for it" I stated, turning it's head to the side again. The creatures eyes followed me. Was that fear in her face?
"Two? The lavdari is worth three, and this human has been brought ten times as far!" he said. I glanced at the lavdari he had mentioned - a pale yellow-skinned female, whose skin glistened with a thin layer of sweet-smelling gelatinous sweat. In it's brooding cycle, it seemed. The lavdari were one of the older servant-stock species. From this ones dark blue, oval eyes, I guessed it was sold by it's own kind to the trader. Blue eyes were considered ill omen by the lavdari.
"This darsa oil is produced from pure white eggs" I replied, looking back to the human, as the trader had called it, and the trader bowed quickly.
"Why didn't you say so, Keeper! May your Olar's Household ever prosper!" he said.
"You have three more of these 'humans'?" I added, looking at him.
"Yes! Another female and two males" he said, happily, "would you be interested in them, too?"
"Ten cases of darsa oil - all from pure white eggs - for the four humans, and that lavdari" I said, "I trust they have at least been given linguistic memimplants?"
"Yes, yes Keeper" the trader said, bowing again, "of course."
"Then we have a deal. I will have the darsa oil delivered to you the next rotation."
Five new servants for my Olar's Household. My Olar, Taern, would surely be pleased, especially since all but one were from a new species. The Olari were the dominant race throughout known space, and believed that anyone, anything, was either owned, or owner. The trader was from another, much smaller Olar Household, headed by Rilara, a young yet ambitious female Olari. One which I felt my master would quickly seek to bring under his own Household. A new planet of servant-stock would raise his Status greatly.
"The other human female..."
"Yes?" I stated, raising my head. One of the trader's servants brought out the other humans.
"Red hair?" I said, with disgust is my voice, "only the Olar and Keepers can wear red."
"Apologies, Keeper, but I had only reached the Trading Post within the last rotation. I have had not time to-"
"You should have found time, trader. Shave her, and ensure the hair follicles are neutered. I offer nine cases of oil, plus I refrain from informing your Olar of your lapse in etiquette, now."
"Yes, Keeper. My apologies, Keeper. Thank you, Keeper. I will see to it immediately" the trader said hurriedly, between bows.
"You should have seen to it already, trader, as I have said" I scowled, "so be quick, I must return to my Olar's household within the next tenth rotation."
"Yes, Keeper" he said, as he gestured his servant to take the red-haired thing out of sight quickly, to deal with the problem.
I lifted the head of the first human to look into it's eyes.
"You have a name, human?" I said, "I give you permission to speak."

The Keeper - description : roughly seven feet tall. Humanoid, hairless, dark blue skin. Deep-set, black eyes, no apparent nostril, or ears. Like all races in bondage, naked save for the collar about his neck, which donates station (red and gold for a Keeper, see below). Keeper's are responsible for day-to-day (or 'rotation-to-rotation') running of their Olar's household. Keeper's have no names (referred to simply as 'Keeper', or with their Olar's Household name - Olar Taern's Keeper, for example - when distinguishing between them).
Collars - Gold for Olar (those subservient to other Olar Households), red and gold for Keepers, black and gold for High Guardians, blue for Household servants, black for Household guards, green for new servants yet unassigned a station in a Household. The collars are rounded, metallic, with no visible seam. They emit a constant, light forcefield about the wearer, keeping the wearers body temperature to a comfortable level, and protecting them from the elements.
