For the anthropologists and Social Studies students.
Bones and other remains suggest that many thousands of years ago, not far from where I live, at a place called Cheddar, a man was killed, his body cooked over an open fire and he was eaten. It has been suggested that members of the tribe would have gathered from miles around for this event.
Last weekend, in Maine, there was a blowout with barbecue. Owners of Harley-Davidson motorcycles from miles around gathered to watch the ritual killing of a Japanese motorcycle. It was tied to a frame with its throttle held open until in was destroyed in a mass of flames. It took just over ten minutes. Then everyone enjoyed the barbecue.
There are some similarities there.
And there is only one Cheddar cheese. It comes from Cheddar.
