Isn't it funny how sports can make people switch their economic viewpoints? I'm as much of a social democrat as can be but when it comes to sports I'm all for the free market. All of my friends that work on Bay Street all seem to favour salary caps and revenue sharing.
Also, I just read a CNNSI article on the upcoming baseball season . It was another "Too much money, not enough teams have a chance to win, blah blah blah" articles. But anyway, one concession the guy made was that 15 teams have a credible shot of going all the way. The writer complained about this saying "That means half the teams are going through the motions" but isn't 50% of the teams having a shot pretty good? Back before free agency, in the good ol' 50's, how many teams had legitimate shots at the world series? 2? the Yankees and the Dodgers and maybe one or two other teams. I'd challenge anyone to actually establish that comptetitive balance is decreasing.
