Serious question for sports fans, whey is Balt Raven QB called Lamar and all other QB's called by their entire name?

I have my own theory, but I would love to hear yours! For that matter, why are so many black sports figures called by their first names and others by their full names. Is it what I think it is,

Same reason Lebron is called Lebron, Gronkoski is called Gronk, and Maxx Crosby is called Maxx or Mad Maxx. Great ones don’t need to have their full names repeated all the time. Congrats to any Ravens fans on this board. Your team is bad ass.
