Here we go again, dire threats and warnings from the Feds. This time over the sequestration of a mere $85 billion of the federal 'continuing resolution' (I say that because we haven't had a real budget in years now). That $85 billion represents a mere 3% of total federal spending, and to be fair, due to the fact that SS and Medicare/Medicaid have been put off limits we're talking about 11% of the remaining spending. 11 freaking percent people!!!!!!!!

For days now I've been listening to the administrations laundry list of all the shit that's going to hit the fan. My God, you'd think that entire social fabric of the nation is going to ripped to shreds. The collapse of the nation is imminent according to those folks.

And I have to wonder why we're going through this 'jerk the public off' charade on an ever tightening cycle? Used to be they only tried to jack us off every 4 years or so, now it's every 6 months and the time gap is shortening. It's only been 3 months this time around.

And I further wonder what in the hell have we come to as a nation? That a mere 11% of federal spending reductions can have such dire consequences, as prognosticated by the "we want more money" crowd in DC? Have we become so dependent on DC that we can no longer function as a nation without their subsuming an ever increasing chunk of the economy? I remind myself that once upon a time slaves fell into the same category as 'dependents.' The only difference being that the slave owner held a bill of sale. In all other respects the reality of the situation we find ourselves in is very much the same that the slaves did, complete dependence on the benevolence of the master. Of course the slaves labored without pay, in our case we get paid only to see a goodly portion taken from our hands before we even have the pleasure of fondling the debased currency we're paid with. Wells was right, we are the Eloi and the Morlochs are going to eat us alive.

You are seriously off message, your fellow RWCJ compadres have been screaming about the Obama sequester apocalypse for a while now. Go read Drudge for your marching orders then report back.

He lying to people who want to believe that it is all true.

He needs to have enemies, they need to have enemies and they all accused Bush of using fear to rush them into war...

Now they are being rushed into Lago.

We ARE the regular Federal authority now

Hardly, Sot-boy. You're the one I really want to do up.

And you'd like it, too, and come back for seconds.

Maybe I'd get your laptop out of the deal, too.

I suggest you stick to sucking AJ's cock. You two seem so...natural...together.

Why do they always have to use gay insults?

I thought they were more circumspect and considerate of the feelings of others, like homosexuals...

You might want to talk to your pal Vettebigot about that. Oh, wait, I forgot, your moral outrage doesn't apply to those on "your side", does it?

If I took your suggestions, I'd probably need to call you God, and where that would stroke your pathetically small ego, I'd rather keep the focus on your alcohol-fueled bitterness.

I'm not bitter at all, I find it heart warming that AJ has found someone to replace Ish in his morning mutual masturbation ritual.

Socialism didn't work out the way he planned...

He's a bottom. He was so sure that he would cum out a top.

That burning sensation is intestinal distress. You have no heart.

Have a hair of the dog and sweeten up a bit.

^^^ Takes being called a homosexual as an insult.

Bit early for me. I might have a couple of beers while watching England v France.

1. Total spending is around $3.4 trillion. I haven't done the maths, but I don't think $84 billion is 3% of $3.4 trillion.

2. The actual amount of spending to be cut under the sequester is about $45 billion.

3. Whether we had a budget or not is irrelevant as spending isn't authorized by a budget; it's authorized by the several appropriation bills.

4. Continuing resolution? See #3 above.

5. It's political theater. Some GS-7 will get laid off and we will have to see the hardship imposed upon the sad sack; and each side will blame the other. Eventually they will vote to maintain the status quo for another year.

It turns out that it might be even less than that.

It also turns out that there really isn't any reductions, just a slowing in the rate of increases.

And in retrospect this thread should have been titled, "What if you threw a sequester and nobody showed up?"

And the dirty little secret is that they will immediately go about presenting bills, that Obama will sign, that replace the lost funds to most of the programs outside of the military cuts.

In other news, sequestration caused a piece of sky to fall in Florida burying a man in a sinkhole even as "I am not a Dictator" began posturing in front of the TOTUS to claim, "I told you so!"

That's $85 billion less private sector demand. How can that not be bad for the economy?

Also Medicare was not put off limits. The seqeuster cut provider and pharmaceutical reimbursements by 2%. Most private insurers base their reimbursement rates off of the Medicare rate so they'll be cutting back too (and increasing their profit). Medical practices that run on small margins are going to struggle with this.

It also turns out that there really isn't any reductions, just a slowing in the rate of increases.

How do you figure? It looks to me like the opposite is true: baseline cuts that don't address the problem of increases still increasing just the same.

Now might be a great time for the President to live up to his 2008 promise to go through the budget line-by-line and weed out the waste...

He could easily cover the cost of the sequester.

He is that smart!
