I'm hoping the computer savy Litsters can help me.

I know I did a dumb thing by trying to send 66 scanned pages via e-mail in one shot. I'm on dial up and after 3 1/2 hours only 60% or so had shown that it was being sent before an error came up and stopped the message from being sent.

I want to delete the message from my sent folder. However, when I open my sent folder in Outlook Express the screen locks up. I see the little hourglass on the screen, but I cannot delete that message or any others in the sent folder for that matter.

Any ideas, suggestions that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Philosophical rant as a preface: Outlook Sucks! It is not only prone to lock up, but also loves to impose its own will instead of the user's. And then there's that notorious vulnerability to viruses.

OK, problem at hand: usually (but not always) you can clear the cybernetic logjam by completely shutting down your computer and then doing a start-up. It will take several minutes for the c.p.u. to do its little cybernetic dance, but eventually it should be able to show Outlook who's boss.

I've tried that a couple of times since yesterday. Actually, I did more of a cold crash close. I've managed to lose all of my favorites/bookmarks, etc. That will teach me that I should back those up more frequently.

Who knows. Maybe I should try start up the nice way. Thank you for the tip, I'll try it again.

There's another possibility that could either work or could send all your stored e-mail into limbo, depending upon the platform. What operating system are you running?

windows XP. The e-mail stored in my in box is fine after the cold crash. I was just so pissed yesterday I didn't even want to look at my computer, ergo the cold crash. My temper gets the best of me on occasion.

For better luck in the future, think: Eudora.

How long do you give Outlook in the Sent Items folder?

Windows, even XP, will say that a program is Not Responding if it doesn't respond quickly enough....that message doesn't always mean the application has become 'hung'.

Give it 5 mins...if it still acts like that, you'll have to get in the nitty gritty.

Full Outlook has a safe mode you can launch into and I bet that'd un-stick that message. Outlook Express...I couldn't tell you.

Another possibility is Windows safe mode. Hit F8 when your computer beeps during boot up, and choose Safe Mode w/ network support. then see if Outlook is responsive enough to kill that message.

Problem solved

I'm finally unstuck. SubNebGuy suggested giving it 5 minutes. I gave it closer to 15 and FINALLY I was able to delete this sucker. Whew! Everything is back to good.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think there was just a little blip happening. Yesterday and earlier this morning I couldn't even get it to unlock using the Task Manager. It was very frustrating, but now it's working just fine.

Denae, you might also want to take a look at the quantity of emails (and any attachments) that are in your Sent Items folder. I once had a very similar problem with Outlook locking up and it was due to the amount of storage space used by the folder. Once I did some housecleaning, all was fine.
