I submitted my first story about a week ago. It originally said PENDING but now shows as SENT BACK but doesn't specifically say it was REJECTED. Any other authors have this issue before or know what it means?

SENT BACK means that Laurel wants you to revise the story before she will publish it. You should be able to find a comment that gives you some idea what she needs.

The site doesn't reject stories, in the sense that once rejected it won't be published. It just sends them back for revisions.

The site has marked stories "rejected" since the site's inception. (Don't confuse folks.) Is it becoming less user irritating now and substituting the word "sent back" for the previous "rejected"? That would be helpful.

Navigate to the "Works" section, and then the "sent back" tab by clicking on the words "Sent Back" with the number next to it.

Click on the story in question there.

At the top, above all the story information you entered, you should see the rejection notice. They can be a bit cryptic, so this link on the forum may be of assistance once you know the reason.

There is no category for "rejected" in the new user control panel. There are "Published," "Drafts," "Pending," and "Sent Back."

It's still in the old panel and it has been the word used since the site started up, so the statement that the site doesn't reject stories is just false. It has rejected stories since the beginning and that's still the word used in an existing and used control panel. And even in the new control panel wording, if the story never does get accepted, it's been rejected.

They really made it 'sent back'?

I guess 'rejected' was too harsh.

Snowflakes, wow.

A long winter in America, mate, not for the delicate.

It makes Lit sound like a bad restaurant. "Chef, the man on table 12 has sent back the Incest. Says his mom cooked better cream pies than that."

Oh, that's so wrong that its....pretty damn funny:D

But it really does say how sad and pathetic and over sensitized people are that 'rejected' is seen as too harsh. Guess lit doesn't want to be the cause of someone needing a 'safe place' from those harsh words.

Do we know that that's the actual reason for that change, or is this speculation?

Might just be that "sent back" is a more accurate term. When a publisher rejects a story, that's a final decision: they don't want to see it again, please do not resubmit. But at Literotica, authors are usually welcome to resubmit as soon as they've addressed whatever issues were identified in the bounce message, so "rejected" is a bit misleading.

Off topic I know, but I do like your new avatar.

This is what I was thinking. The rejection notices are always framed in the form of a question, and you're always welcome to resubmit after making modifications.

"Sent Back" better represents that that "Rejected".

"Query" would be the more accurate term here at Literotica, I think. In many cases, Laurel is responding on the basis of a "wonder if" or speculation based on a cursory scan, not a close read to confirm the reason for sending it back. In all but one case where I've gotten a "rejection" notice, the reason for rejection hasn't been in the story--only in Laurel's supposition of what could be there--and the story was ultimately accepted as originally written. (The one case, was that I used a fake URL without realizing that even fake ones aren't acceptable here.)

In real publishing, a publisher's editor wouldn't reject something based on only a scan. They will highlight and query the author about the issue, marking it as a "query." They won't assume that the writer has sinned about something that they themselves have been incomplete or sloppy about supposing, as a result of having to put a large volume of stories through in a limited amount of time.

"Sent back" is certainly better than "rejected" when chances are good that it's the submissions editor not having confirmed a legitimate reason to reject before doing so--not any mistake on the writer's part.

Considering where American society is heading its an educated guess and to back it all anyone needs to do is look around at our (The US) participation award society where everyone is desperate not to be 'hurtful'

But it could just be they decided on a word change after 20ish years. The toadies will surely state how amazing the change is.

The real issue of course isn't what its called its the reason meaning when most people come here with something 'sent back' their first gripe is that there's hundreds of stories with that content

maybe actual consistency should be the goal rather than a new nickname.
