Send in the clowns...

I rewatched "Miranda" last night - from 1948. The British films were a lot less prudish than in Hollywood then. I can't imagine the story passing muster in the US: A nymphomaniac mermaid seduces three men away from their partners, breaks their hearts, ending up having a baby by (we guess) one of them.

Ah, yes, Glynis Johns and "Send in the Clowns." One of my favorite songs but a major frustration for me. I played Frederick in a production of "A Little Night Music" and, though I got to sing a couple of short lines of "Send in the Clowns," it was only a couple of short lines. I campaigned for them to add a refrain for me, but no dice. My absolute favorite song in that play is "Liaisons." I've used that as an inspiration for a few stories.
