Not sure if this has been mentioned, but author Jilly Cooper has died aged 88.

For Brits of a certain age, her novels - Riders, Rivals, Polo, The Man who made husbands jealous - were often our first introduction to sex from a woman's perspective. I know it was mine. Sneaking them off my aunt's bookshelf on visits and reading about Kitty enjoying Lysander's oral skills, or Perdita's journey of sexual discovery, was my first experience of female sexual enjoyment in print. It was eye opening.

Also, frequently hilarious.

She was by all accounts a thoroughly good egg too, so will be missed.

Sad news. I remember her mostly for her scathing essay on the Hite Report. "She sent out 100,000 questionnaires and got 4000 replies, which makes me think that only women with a lousy sex life and a stamp bothered."

Aw, shame!

The redemption of Rupert Campbell-Black in Rivals was an amazing character arc. All her larger-than-life characters were fabulous. She and Jackie Collins and Shirley Conran were the queens of the bonkbuster.
