it sounds like Allen is taking the high road (no personal attacks)... still thinks he has a shot at the White House.

lots of stuff about how well VA is doing under Republican control: jobs up, welfare down. .... didn't work as well as expected on the campaign trail.

If welfare is down I suspect it's for the same reasons it's been going down here in Ontario. It's so difficult to get and keep that people are disappearing off the rolls.

I can't speak for the party, but I'm willing to trade a House majority for a Supreme Court justice. House reps go on the block every time a term expires; the Supreme Court is for life.

it emerged that his mom is likely Jewish (though not by religion) and he's likely been concealing that fact. is he embarrassed? after the publicity, he explained: he hadn't known about it until recently and she asked him to keep it quiet so she wouldn't be persecuted. (She is a Tunisian, Sephardic Jew by birth; she has lived in the US for a long time.) He added that he is quite proud of the Jewish lineage (Lumbroso) of his grandfather. Damage control.

Allen's biggest fumble: Snipping sex passages from Webb's novels.
